If anyone has insight to the following problem, please help. I have a 98 Cavalier (2.2L). The speedometer keeps jumping up and down very violently. I was first under the impression that it was the instrument cluster. However, when I tried changing out the instrument cluster (same year cluster) the car would not start. I am thinking that is has something to do with the security lock system. Anyway, so I only swamped out the speedo motor. No luck. Kind of weird, just by plugging in a new cluster the car fails to start. Don't know where to look next. Is it the alternator, computer, possible a sensor? Once again if you have had this problem, I would appreciate your advice.
