Engin changing question
Tuesday, March 07, 2006 4:36 PM
Hi everybody, my question is: can i put a Bonneville engine on my Chevy z22 97 2doors...i heard that some1 did that but im not sure..its a 3.8l 6V i think?!?! oh and if its possible what Bonneville year the car must be and do i have to make many changes on my Chevy to make it fit perfectly?? (and i thought about keeping the Bonneville for winter with the z22 engine) oh and last question about it...does it really make a difference..or good changes on a z22engine can do the same job?? thx!!

some have put the 3800 V6 Supercharged out of a buick riveria in cavaliers.
search for member Raven. hes done the swap. but everything was custom. and kind of a big PITA.
better off swapping in an eco or at least the 2.4

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

thx for the tip...but...is there somthin i can do with my 2.2 ?? to boost it a bit..like a chip (venom 400) somthin that with make a real difference....i know its a 2.2 and a turbo isnt THAT great for it at the cost/effectivness point, but i like it it has only 67500km and everything is orriginal!! the esthetic part is ok but the performance i have probs with it.. have too many dumb friends who play with old 1980 toyotas crap, with home made crap parts that break after a month or 2!! so yeh what can i do to my 2.2??

The chip won't work.

I'll just post the link rather than get into the details... this is a quite informative post

There's quite a few questions in the Performance forum on the 3.8L swap:

Somewhere in there might be a how-to on the swap... if not, run a search for 3.4L or 3400 and it should be similar.

BTW, I can't believe you didn't mention that post LMR... unless it just didn't cross your mind.

well 1 theres no such thing as a z22

second swap in an eco or a 2.4 and boost that. i looked into the the 3800 sc motor and it is a pita but not to bad. you need to get custom mounts, tranny from an 00-05, custom flywheel, custome sub frame brace, computer needs to be reflashed, etc...

OH btw...why wudnt the chip work on my 2.2?? and...is a turbo agood idea to giv it some boost??and does it realy worth it or it just feels the same when u ride it b4 turbo and after? Final question...can i do somthin on this &$#?&$# 2.2?? or im i better get a 2.4.. but i like it, the engine is practicly new!(67 500km) hard to find one like that for 95-98 year(the year im lookin for, cuz the 2003+ is 2 expensiv)...but the shape and estetic isnt enough for me...need to boost his lazy a$$ a bit!

The ECU in the J's are not chippable... never have been. All the chip will do is either a) trick the comp into thinking your car is pulling in colder air, therefore dumping more fuel, lowering the A/F ratio and making your car run like shyte, or b) blowing the sensor and the computer thinks that there is a prob, so it runs in limp mode, making fuel economy greatly suffer, or c) if you happen to put a chip in the computer, it can/may fry the computer.

Check through the performance forum for threads pertaining to the 2.2.,..

better yet... Clicky

Yes, you can boost your 2.2 with a turbo setup and YES it will take ALOT more research, time, money, and patience than you realize. Start searching and learning in the boost and performance forums before you start trying to pull your engine apart.

Blown.

can you pust this other engine in ...... yes

which 2 of the 3 do you have

time
money
knowledge

the z22, was simply a dealer appearance package, it's just a plain old 2.2 engine

You would be better off driving the car the way it is now and saving up your money towards a car that is better to begin with. Unless you get crazy with it, your 2.2 is never going to feel fast.
