98" Sunfire trunk bezel
Friday, March 10, 2006 1:28 AM
Alright, I'm curious... I wanna get rid of that ugly trunk bezel ha ha, is there something I should know? like is there an aftermarket part I can buy to replace it? I was told if I remove it, it will expose abuncha screw holes, etc. Again, it's a 98 Sunfire. Also, anyone here who knows alot on the 98 sunfire that can help me out on some stuff would be nice.

Thanks.

Best thing you could probably do is upgrade to an 03+ Sunfire Trunk. Other than that...no idea what you could possibly do to upgrade it.

Options are:

2000 - 2002 bezel (and bumper if you want to retain your reverse lights)
Paint your 98 one body color
2003+ bezel, tails, and bumper

Upgrade to an 03" tunk? Do I just buy all the rear parts for an 03 and it would fit a 98 rear-end??

Yep. The filler panel, tail lights and bumper are all a direct swap.

Same trunk lid, same rear quarterpanels...

Ohh okay, alright sweet. I guess I'll do that 03" upgrade, because I'm also doing the cavy front-end conversion. You guys got any idea's where to get any of the rear-end OEM parts for the 03" sunfires?? Sorry to be asking alot of questions, just want to get alot of info and do this right.

Since they are fairly new, you might have an issue finding them in junkyards.

Also, it looks like in your profile you own a sedan... in that case, you are going to have to find a Canadian 03+ Fire sedan (please correct me if I'm wrong on that part), or do a cavi trunk lid swap.

Reason for the Canadian Fires, all 2003-2005 Fires sold in the US were coupes IIRC.

Hmm lol oh geez, that will prolly be hard finding the Canadian 03's around where I live. Alright... about the Cavy trunk lid. I'm guessing Any cavy around same year would be easiar? Just get the trunk from one and it should be a pretty easy install right? I know for the cavy's they got that RK sport carbon fiber trunk filler.

95 - 2005 trunk lids will interchange with the Fire sedans.

Definately easier.

Alright sweet azz man, I'll go get me a cavy trunk lid then tomorrow.

Re: 98

but that trunk lid should obviously be off a SE cavalier right? or does it even matter for the cavy lids.
Re: 98

Nope, don't matter. Z24, LS, Base... all the same (Cavi's didn't come as SE's)

Alright cool, thanks alot for ur help man. Also, I remember a neighbor having a 96 SE cavy =P lol. SO UR WRONG!! but thanks alot. I'll prolly have more questions for u in the future.

heh, never knew that part bout the SE

Anyway, here's a pic of a Sunfire that the owner asked of me the same question several months ago, with a Cavi lid.

(and yes, it's a Fire...)

Oh yeh, about the cavy front-end conversion... since I got a 98 SE Sunfire, wut front-end parts from a cavy would fit? like what year and models would be compatible for the conversion. I know I need the Hood, Hood hinges, front bumper, Driver and Passanger Fenders, and ofcourse the head lights and wireharnesses.
Re: 98

You can retain the same hood hinges as your fire

95-05 hood
95-99 headlights, fenders, and bumper
00-05 fenders go with 00-02 lights/bumper and 03-05 lights/bumper

Alright, cool. All Cavy models should fit the front of my fire?? doesn't matter if it's GT or Z24, etc. the front end parts will fit?
Re: 98
Friday, March 10, 2006 11:32 PM
Right, they will fit... just choose option a, b, or c (a being 95-99, b is 00-02, and c is 03+) and stick with that year range.

Alright, thank you very much Kardain. I'll be sticking with the 95-99's, reason I'm doing the conversion is because I like the headlights on those cavy's.

on the sunfire sedans the 03-05 bumper cover is the same as the 00-02.

also you could use a 00-02 fire trunk lid and just buy the filler panel of e bay, or one of us Canadian guys

Not sure if that has been tested yet, due to the lack of Sunfire sedans in the US. It should be possible.
