i know the egr is an exhasut gas recirculator thing that put burnt gases back into the manifold right. why is it in some cars and not others? is there a performance gain without it? and i cant get a egr block off plate here in ottawa i called today. so where can i get one? and how to you instal it? does it have a gasket too?

The idea of EGR is to recirculate unburned fuel from your exhaust back into your engine so that it can be used. It lowers emissions, if you have tests where you are at I'd recommend leaving it on.

It does have to do with reducing emissions. It recirculates exhaust gasses (unburnt or not) back into the combustion chamber to reduce the emissions. The EGR was eliminated in 1999 because it really didn't remove much emissions on the cars, and was just more things that could go wrong. Yes, a 98 has an EGR.

thanks where can i get the block off plate? putting an ho manifold on and need it but the dealer said they cant get it? we do have emission test but this past summer it passed with no problems. im good till 2007 lol
hey if i boost will i pass the emission test? with just a muffler
is there any other way not to get check engine lights? and i really didnt want to buy another exhaust gasket to put on this h.o manifold and i dont want remove the EX manifold yet
i work in sheet metal could i make my own block off plate? i got copper/aluminum/ SS steel anything i just need to see what it looks like?

I paid $12 for my intake gasket set (manifold & tb) from autozone...
No, there is no way to not get a check engine light, even with a block off plate. If the ECU sees that the EGR isn't working, then its going to turn it on. The only way to get rid of it is to swap in a 99 PCM, or have somebody delete the EGR from yours down the road with something like HP Tuners.

i still have my egr pluged in hanging off to the side with my ho manifold but blocked the egr hole with some scrap metal no codes ether i have a 97 z24 5 speed
