I just bought a 2002 sunfire 2dr. 5spd. its got a 2.2 ecotec engine and i was wondering what is the best Horespower gain for the least amount of money?
the 2002 cavy had the eco, not the sunfire. 2003 was the eco for the fire.
Unfortunatly horses are expensive and so is horse power. Don't waste your money on those stupid little "power chips" for your car cause they do nothing for us at all. Your best bang for the buck would be an exhaust system or an intake. Do both and you see a pretty good gain. An intake for your car should run around $200.00 - $300.00 depending on what brand you go with. A header will be $150.00 - $500.00 again depending on what brand. Then you can either buy a pre-made exhaust or go custom
prices here should run you between $500.00 - $2000.00 all depeding on what you get and what material its made from.
Good luck hope this helps. If you have any more questions just ask.

Thats missinformation for sure, check ot the members registry some time. Bet you will have a hard time convincing the late 2002 gt owners that that motor under there hood is not an ECOtec.
I noticed the biggest gain from my exhaust. That's probably due to the fact that I did my header-back all at once.

I understand your question but I will still say you should get out of that frame of mind.
You should modify according to power goals, not money. If you're looking for 200 HP, than you modify accordingly and not let me be an issue, but of course if you can handle to spend the right amount of money and not cheap things out, i would suggest not doing that.
I could tell you to buy X part but I won't. I'd first sit down and decide what you're looking out of your car. Last thing you want to do is throw a bunch of parts on your car that will just take you in the opposite direction of what you really want.
That's just suggestion though...

Ahah! I just checked his profile and I'm 5 days older than him. Man I'm bored. Welcome to the org. and the best advice you'll ever get is to listen to NJHK. He's the all-around, certified, know-almost-everything guy. And if he ever steers you wrong, there'll be someone to correct him.

I have a good general knowledge of things but if I don't know something I can usually point you in the right direction.
But yes, my previous advice is from personal experience. I spent all this money on bolt ons and even engine modifications when really my ultimate goal was to be boosted. If I had a set plan from the start, I would have never done things in that order but you learn your lesson.
Also a general thing in life, before you spend money or large amounts of it, you should have a plan as to how you will be able to afford it or if you can afford it in the first place. If you make $7 an hour and have lots of bills/responsibilities, than maybe modifying shouldn't be put on the back burner.
Last but not least...save your money! This also goes hand in hand with initial planning for what you want out of your vehicle...you save your money to do it.
I'll stop talking your heads off lol
