Finally Figured my Car out!

Ok, Comment if you want...but PLEASE tell me if I completely made a dumb-founded statement or am planning on buying my stuff from the wrong place when I can get it cheaper from another place...

The Car: 1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2dr. with a 2.2/3 spd. auto trans.

Performance:
-Performance on the car is going to be the shy point of it, I plan on keeping this car for the next 3-4 years and it has to be able to keep up as a daily driver so gas mileage is a big deal.

1. Cold Air Intake
-I plan on going with AEM or Weapon R. After talking with a few people they assure me that you do infact pay for what you get and just because all intakes are the same, I'm buying from a trustworthy company that I'm sure will be shipped responsibly and will fit under the hood correct instead of some ebay rip.

Going to buy from...www.definedparts.com for the Weapon R ($143.00) or the www.aempower.com for the AEM intake ($358.43). Only thing that worries me is the look of the Weapon R intake, it looks a bit awkard and may not flow well with the actual engine.

2. Exhaust:
-I plan on purchasing a full cat-back exhaust including headers. The piping will all be 2.25" and with have a single exhaust on it. Magnaflow has been highly recommended by a few people that I've talked to as well..

For the headers, I've heard Weapon R and Pacesetter alot, and also I think Magnaflow? Not sure on them..seems reasonable. I know that I need it armor coated but I have no idea where to buy it from.

Cat...I've been pointed towards a 2.25" high-flow cat from Magnaflow, only website I know where to get this from is www.magnaflow.com ,and I'm not sure on the price of it.

Resonater...No one has really been able to point me in a direction for resonaters other than what they do...no product reviews of them...so input is WELCOME!

Muffler....Same as the Cat...pointed towards Magnaflow...would LOVE support here too.

Thats the extent to what "performance" upgrades I really plan on doing other than a yellow top purchase pretty soon.

Exterior:
-The exterior of my car is what I'm looking forward to doing. I want a clean..non-kitted car. I plan on doing the fire/cav conversion on it and shaving the entire car. The car will be painted a nice deep toned black and hopefully will be sporting 16' or 17' gunmetal rims within the next year.

No real thing here to price out plan other than its one big deal...

Interior/Audio:
-I absolutely am kicked on SQ inside my vechile...I honestly care NOT for what people can hear outside...haha. My interior is the main focus of my car because thats what I'll be looking at so its getting a lot of work on it.

1. Audio
-I have a OEL Display Pioneer Premier HU atm that is brand new, keeping it.
-I plan on going Infinity Kappa Perfect 6x9 in the rear, and 6 1/2s in the door...with a single amp powering them..not sure on the amp.
-I want to install 2 12' Alpine Type R subs powered by another amp, again unsure on the amp.
-I will installl Dynomat like a fatman is on cake all throughout my car within about 2 weeks.

2. Interior:
-Racing Seats...Possibly Sparco.
-Custom Painted Interior...All DEEP black..hopefully to match the exterior paint.
-Custom Blue Glow HVAC
-Custom Guage with Blue Glow/Accented Needles
-3 Guage Pod, unsure of the guages yet.

Suspension:
-The ride is what I'm about...I love it when you can tell someones put money into their suspension.

Strut Tower Bars: Gonna buy a front/rear set from Gravana..again I'm going with the you buy what you get type deal and will be dealing with a good company instead of a EBAY knockoff.

I plan on lowering the car a SMALL amount, nothing slammed or bagged or however you say it. I've been pointed towards Koni, but I don't exactly know the ethics on suspension yet but i'm learning..

Thanks and Comments WELCOME!

Sounds fine to me. The AEM intke is probly a cold air by looking at that price. If you go with a cold air MAKE sure you gat a water bypass valve or you could kill your engine.
Sure people will say you don't actualy need one but its cheap insurance if you live somewhere that it rains hard and streets get any big puddles.

Other then that go for it !

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

i suggest save a few $$$ by purchasing one of the other types of sound deadening. Dynomat will cost you almost a grand to do you car, while fatmat is near $150 and and few others like road kill and b-quiet are other good choices.

You said you like SQ, but your going fo Type R subs, which arenot an SQ choice.

Type R's are what I was told would be a good choice in subs, I've heard a single 12" Type R and it sounded decent...can you recommened better?

Where can you buy Fatmat at?

And what exactly is a water bypass valve and where can I look into them at?

You can get fat mat in 50 or 100 square foot rolls on ebay. Just search for Fatmat. A water bypass valve is basically a second filter that goes in-line on the intake before your engine. It's put there incase you would happen to go in a puddle or high water. It stops the engine from sucking up the water by letting air into the intake. As for the sub... there are better people here to answer that. I personally like the sound of 10s if you aren't going for spl.

A friend has a 10" Type R sub and its not bad, hits pretty low and its tight. If you want to go high-end, check out MB Quart speakers and subs. They're pricey but sound amazing. In my opinion, the Type R's are good for the money but make sure you go to Tweeter or other sound retailers and listen to all the different brands and models.

As for the exhaust, a cat-back includes piping from the cat all the way to the muffler(s). So if you decide to purchase a cat-back then you won't have to worry about purchasing a muffler separately. Magnaflow makes an OBD-II compliant catalytic converter, part number 94035 if I recall correctly, that has been used successfully (for the most part) on a number of exhaust systems on OBD-II J's. As for a resonator, you should choose a length that you think would suit you and go with it. The longer the resonator, the quieter, smoother, and deeper the sound should be.

I hope all that made sense, I'm getting pretty tired. Good luck with the car, bro, you've got great plans lined up.

Blown.

people never listen I dont even tell people any more. I just let them waist there money now. I have a write floating around somwhere on how to install a 2.4 intake for about 30 bucks but by all means if you want to waist 300 on AEM's super highperformacne intake be my guess.

just ask your self this.1. how much do you think they spent to make it? and how cold is the air after it travles through a heat soaked tube.

No problems with their intakes. They all use mendrel tubing so there would be no type of restriction.

I like how you're thinking things out first, and I must say, you've come to the right place to get help. JBO has saved me tons of money and the people have been here for me to bitch and moan about stuff as well as help diagnose a few strange noises and CEL's.

If you're thinking about getting a header, cat, and cat-bak I'd say just instal the header and take it to a shop and have them put the rest together. I know I wish I had started out that way first because without a lift, working on an exhaust has been a major pain for me, and if the shop does it and it rattles or clangs, they get to fix it not you. Good luck with everything and shoot us some pics when it starts coming together.

Why 12" subs? 10's or 8's are more for SQ. I have a 10" Type E and it sounds great, i'm also strictly SQ. Good amps are Rockford Power amps, not Rockford Punch.
