Noise after turning off engine
Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:56 PM
My car makes a noise after I turn off the engine. It sounds like two forks scraping together. I'm pretty sure this is normal b/c the car's done it all its life. I assume it's part of the transmission. I've never heard an auto do it. Thanks.

Probably just your internals slowing down. I doubt it's something that's a big deal.

Hmm...

Honestly, I couldn't give you an answer unless I could actually hear it.

forks scraping together?

hmm.....

like a dinging noise?

if so it's probably your muffler/exhaust cooling.

my sunfire does it the min it turnes off it will make that sound my friends grand am does it to. i think its just the pulleys slowing down. thats the area it comes from.

it could be the pullies I suppose, I always thought the engine completely stopped when you turned the key off.

I do have the exhaust cooling noise though, it comes from my converter.

I can hear two noises, one from the engine (I'm 99% sure) and the exhaust popping

The exhaust is fine.

The other I'm at a loss for, probably nothing if the car still drives and runs the same.

I d k, the noise i guess sounds like metal on metal grind to a halt sound. Yes there is oil in there, i check it every day, just like my tire pressure.

Don't the radiator fans spin for a while? Maybe one of them is wobbly.
