I was driving and car start decelerating. When I stop to go across the freeway the engine was knocking (rod). Stopped and let cool, add a quart of oil and was able to go on but with engine clanking. At this point I know I have to replaced bearing but what could it cause that. The engine has 122k miles ans was running good.
well you can start by adding some profile info about yourself, ie car, make, model, engine type.
Hello guys,
New in this page. Hope I can find answers to questions and share opinions with all of you. As you see already I start this thing with a dramatic problem with my 1985 Z24.
If anyone of you can help me with your opinions I would really appreciated.
Thanks
if it really is a rod bearing it's not gonna be as simple as replacing the bearing. IF that's what the problem is.
the crankshaft may be damaged and is probably scored if you did throw a rod bearing, which is what may be causing the noise in your engine.
So you'd have to get the crankshaft resurfaced and all that jazz before it'll run well as well as getting new bearings. but it's hard to diagnose problems over the internet, can you tell us more? and this should be in maintenence.... but we'll see what happens here...
This weekend I'll be pulling the pan out. Let me see what I find out in that treasure box and I'll post it in the Maintenance next time.
Thanks
