98 Sunfire GT - Major Problems

Hi everyone, I'm having major problesm with my Sunfire. The car bucks, backfires and overheats. It backfired so bad it blew my muffler apart. Could the bucking and backfire be from my oxygen and fuel sensor? I canged my fuel sensor and it seemed to help for a while.

Thanks for the help.

Your computer could be shot. Are you throwing any codes?

Yes it came back with a code we looked it up and it was my gas sensior. We did it again and it said my oxygen sensior. When we replaced the gas sensior it was still bucking a bit and still backfiring but not like the a shot gun sound it was doing and is doing now, more like a putt.

Same thing happened to me the other night. Guess I shoulda gone easier on that chili and hot sauce.

Seriously though, have you tried changing out the O2 sensor yet? It just sounds a lot like what happened to my friend's Vette recently. In her case it did turn out to be the O2 sensor that was causing all the problems.
