Just wondering if its safe to disconnect the battery to remove a fault code, or will it mess up the theftlock?
thanx.
andrew.
just go to Checker, Auto Zone, or one of those places and have them clear it. it's free, and you don't have to disconnect your battery.

Andrew, you can either do what Jarett said or you can disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. Just remember that when you disconnect the battery, your radio will lock if you have the system set up. Hope you have your pass code written down someplace so you can reset your radio.
I have done this on my 98Z and have had no problems. Jaretts way may be easier, but you could also run into a nasty Autozone person who is having a bad day and doesn't want to do it. It's totally your choice which way to go. Both will work.

never heard of this radio thing, Anyway without a code reader. And if you want to save your preset radio stations/clock
open the hood pop the fuse box open and pull the PCM fuse for a minute or two does the same thing without the work of working on your battery
Brandon, It's called Theftlock. If you have it setup, whenever you disconnect the battery, the radio thinks someone is trying to steal it. You have to input a secret code number to unlock it. It's all explained in the Owners Manual.
Thanks Jarett. Yours looks good also. Let me tell you it is difficult to keep it clean and shiny here in the windy desert. Thank goodness I have a garage.

have you ever done this and had to retype in the password, ive disconected my battery and NEVER had to do this, as far as im aware THEFTLOCK would only apply if the stereo was unplugged from the stock harness and tried to be powered by another car. THEN you would need a code, i highly doubt a car maker would make the radio need a code everytime you disconnected the battery it would be a huge pain in the ass since most things you do to your car the first line of instrustions says "disconnect negative battery terminal"
Brandon, yes, I have done this. Since I have the THEFTLOCK activated on my car. All the information is in the Owners manual. I am not making this up.

i never had to do this to my radio. only thing it did was reset my radio stations
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Thanx for all the help!
I tried removing the negative battery terminal for about 45min, put er back on and the MIL light was still on, radio stations were still programed but the clock on the radio was reset.
I wish I could get to an autozone or checker but were not that lucky up here in the great white.
I'm gunna try the fuse.
thanx again
andrew.
Try Ebay for a pocket code scanner for the future. Should be able to pick one up for about $25. Makes life sooooooo much easier. Plug it in, erase code, and drive happy. Done in 2 minutes flat.
98 right? thats OBD II you cant erase codes by disconnecting the battery..
I think the last years for that kind of code clearing was 94.
The theft lock is true. but most of the time its only activated when I take a radio out of a customers dash not disconnect the battery. Sounds weird but somehow the radio knows that Im removing it from the dash.

what are you talking about? ^^^
I used to clear this stupid P0133 02 sensor code when I fouled my 02 sensor up. by unplugging the battery.
So you changed the sensor , unhooked the batt, hooked it back up, and the engine light stayed off right ?
