this had started last week everytime i try to start it, cranks but won't start, Somehow, I discovered that it starts if I crank the ignition at the same time stepping on the gas pedal.
Does any of u guys had ideas wats wrong with my car and how to fix it ? Any body had this problem before & willing to share w/ me some ideas?
All the help will be appreciated. thanks in advance.
IAC (Idle Air Control) is probably stuck closed.
I'm having the same problem, and yeah, it's the IAC, a technician suggested to replace it but I couldn't find them locally... after it found a cheap and quick way to fix the problem, in case it's just stucked... but if the problem persists every 15 days -as happening to me- maybe you'll have to buy a new one...
Behind the throttle body, you'll find the IAC Unscrew two thorx screws, unplug the connector... take it apart, spray some carb cleaner, then WD40 to clean it, some in the hole that where the IAC was attached... put everything again in place and start your engine.
Hope it helps. Good luck
How far do you have to press on the gas before it starts? to the floor or close to it? Or just a little bit? After it starts will it idle without you touching the pedal? Is the engine light on while its running? Is the throttle response there, meaning can you rev it up and it seems ok or does it miss and pop?
I've never changed an IAC motor on the third gen, Lots Of EGR valves though.
What exactly are you driving any way?
01 cav w/01 3400 gam gt 4t45e
Oh , a 99 cav, assuming its a 2.2, I would look at the egr valve first. Check for carbon deposits wedging the valve open.

I only press the gas half way tro the floor. the throttle response is normal, yes can you rev it up it's ok. the engine doesen't bog down or hesitates. After it starts no problem at all. jus that when it's been park for hours I need to give her gas to start.
It's a 99 2.4 L Z24 5 speed (can be found in my profile)
Thanks again,
Al
Check your Idle Air Control valve. See if it moves. Be carful it doesn't fly off when your checking it. And clean off the carbon.
Is it cold there? Could be the IAT (incoming air temperature) sensor too, cold air needs more fuel to get the engine started.
Reg says 2.4L, which also has the EGR, could be stuck open, be a bit harder to fix if it is.
Is it possible to be the battery? in case it's old... who knows...
NO it's not cold here anymore. But, two weeks ago my check engine light goes off cause' i cleaned TB and changed TPSensor; now it came back on i scanned it and got this codes;
DTC P0335 CKP Sensor A Circuit Performance ( what does it mean? i just replace it)
DTC P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input (should i replace it?)
Could this be causing my starting problem? My battery is only one month old.
Thanks for all D' help guys,
Al
Go out and get yourself a volt/ohms meter and checks for breaks in the lines to and from the components. Make sure you don't have any broken wires or frayed wires that could be shorting out.
If ya do:
1. cut them in half.
2. throw some heat shrink on them.
3. Twist em together.
4. Put some flux on em and solder them together.
5. Pull the heat shrink over the wire, and use a lighter to shrink the heat shrink over the wire. Don't melt it. Just wave the flame back and forth over the heat shrink. I love that stuff!!!
wonder if maybe that isn't what's wrong with mine i know i have that prob from time to time also, though it only happens when the engine is cold like if it has been sitting overnight etc. The engine will spin really fast like it wants to turn over yet if i let go of the key too soon i hear this pop like a small backfire once it's warmed up to operating temp it always starts right up, just when it's cold that i have the prob .
