Hello I am new to this forum posting stuff, but I feel this is the best option for me. I am lost and cant think of anything that would cause this problem. Please help if you can.
I race a 1989 cavalier with a 2.0 with an automatic tranny on a paved banked oval racetrack. The car will not go above 2500-3000 rpm in 2nd gear. The TCC is already disconnected, don't hear any vacuum leaks, vacuum EGR appears to be working( with car running if you push diaphragm up car cuts out, when diaphragm comes down car returns to idle) Just replaced gas tank and pump looks ok and filter is almost new. I cant change trannies because thats what came with the car its part of the rules.
If anyone has any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated thanks.
Is it acting like it's hitting the rev limiter, or does it act like it just doesn't have the balls to rev any higher?

Check your swich on top of the tranny that the shifter goes through for proper operation. Sounds like the rev limiter that is enabled while the car is supposed to be in park or reverse.
