Okay so while i was putting my new battery in my car, my little brother decides to drench me with the hose getting the engine bay wet. How do I dry it off or do I just wait a bit for it to evaporate?
It will be alrite..just let it go..getting water on the engine bay is no problem, it's when you drive thru big puddles and such and get water inside the air intake system.
engine bay is wet when you drive during a rain storm and its ok then
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Lmao i did that one time with another car i had soaked the spark plugs etc the engine stalled out that thing never did run right after that, had to spend a ton of money on it at the garage. That's what sucks about these small cars if it rains really hard your at a disadvantage over some of these lifted trucks and 4x4's.
yes it does seem like my spark plugs have a bit of water around them... can this hurt the car?
How can I get the spark plugs off carefully and remove/dry the water... Any help would be great! ASAP
if any water is puddled then soak it up with a towel. you are fine. trust me. water isnt going to get inside your cylinders around the spark plugs unless they are loose.
it takes a lot of water to hydrolock an engine.

okay i did that but it started to smoke a little bit so i turned it off
what started to smoke? and are you sure it wasn't just steam from the water?

i am not sure.. its greyish... coming from around the spark plugs everytime i turn it on and let it run for about a minute
thats smoke from the head getting warm, its normal unless he poured the water into the engine itself. I think you'll be more than enough ok with a little water in the engine bay.
now generally if the spark plugs themselves become soaked with water it's better to just put new plugs in because water and dirt and contaminants can foul the plugs.
if they were messed up, he'd get a CEL for misfire, but since he probably didnt get the plugs wet, im doubting hes having any issues.
Just so you know, a little water is actually good for your engine. Usually in the case of water injection though to reduce detonation, but you should be fine. Just so remind you, when your litle bro is sleeping, put one of his hands in a bowl of warm water.
Do you ever get rain where you live ? Ever drive through a puddle ? welll ?

I live less then 100ft from the atlantic ocean. Does it ever flood here, yes. Have i ever stalled the car with water well above the tops of the fenders, no. A little water is ok, and you cant say its not, there is alot of false info going around on this site about a cup of water killing a car.

Uh, thats kinda exactly what I was getting at ! lol ! Thats why I asked him if he'd ever driven through a puddle before.
As long as water doesn't get sucked into the intake or cover the top of the engine with standing water then yeah water is fine !

yes he would have gotten a cel for misfire but that wasn't even what i was talking about i meant if the plugs got soaked because you drove through a big huge puddle at like 30 plus miles an hour, you know like the road closures they have when it rains because the road is flooded out and you drive through the road closure anyway just to see if you can make it that's what i was referring to. I mean granted he didn't do that obviously but still.
not the best thing for the alternator!
