Hey everyone. I should be gettin a 00 cavalier soon and from what i can remember its not a z24 and from what i read it will probably be the 2.2 2200 or other engine. please tell i can boost up the hp on this and make it somewhat formidable. I'm not planning to run real fast but still have nice pick up and have a nice sounding engine. oh and sorry if this is in the wrong place cuse i tried searching and i didnt see anything like this.

thats good to hear, thanks for the responses. Ive just read that its the weakest of the engines and ur better off doing an engine swap but i can't afford that nor do i think id want to. also i wanted to know what people thought about this piece called the "turbonator"

yea man almost anything is possible, but u gotta be a bit more specific on what you want it to do. you can do a lot with our cars, but u need to know what you want, and having a knowlege of what youre starting with wouldnt hurt either. if you can find out for sure which engine it is, it would help. but basically, you can do a lot with what youve got. basic starter mods are things like: intake, header, exhaust system of your choice(whether custom or pre-fabbed) maybe a crank pulley... stuff like that for basics. and it gets more complicated as you go along into engine internals, or even turbo/supercharger (depending on the engine).
so yes, its completely possible. search through the registry to get some examples of what a lot of people have done with what theyve got

most ppl start with an intake and exhaust...do um together though and you shold notice a increase and make your stuff sound nice (depending on how your exhaust is done)
thanks, i just went to check it out and i got the vin and got the carfax on it and its actually a 98 cavi wit a 2.2 2000 SFI and its a 3 speed auto. so im gonna see what can be done with it thanks.

Actually, if you want the "black sheep" of the third gens, the 95-97 2.2's would be it.
The 2200's are a decent engine. Can be boosted.
The 3spd is darn near indestructable as well.
o cool thats good to know but i know this is a newb q.....so guess im allowed to say it..... but what do u mean by indestructible. (and i know what the word means for anyone tryin to be a smart butt lol)
That transmission is hard as hell to blow.
