well im in the search for a new engine.. i called a junk yardtold them i need it for a 96 2.4L they sai dthey have a 98 but its supposeable different? i told them i dont think it is and i would buy it. Is thre any changes i thought it was just 99+ had no EGR and i would have a CEL but i shouldnt have a problem with 98 correct?? thanx

thats where i got the engine is carpart.. u tytpe in 96.. it will not bring up 98 engines

i found it on carpart. do the search and under type, there is an option for year use that one.
the first 2 engines listed are out of 1999's the next 2 are pulled out of 1998's

ok i checked it out at work today. the 98 motor will work. but the manifolds are different. could be the one there going to sell you still has the manifolds on it, and they assumed you would reuse them.

The timing chain tensioner ass. is a different design on the 98, probably a few small things, but afaik it should work, 96 was a finiky year.
