hello. i am probably the newest newbie on the site. i found this place while trying to locate info to get my sisters 93 cavalier on the road again. her car is a 92 cavalier 4 door 2.2L with the auto transmission. the trans has been lousy since she got the car but she recently ruined the engine. i came across a 1989 2 door cavalier with a 2.0L with the auto. as far as i can tell it apears that GM used the same block and heads for both engines. my question is can i swap out the 2.2L for the 2.0L and the trans attatched to it. the 2.2 is muti port and the 2.0 is throtle body but it looks like i would be able to swap manifolds so i could have the multi port injection and i wouldnt have to change computers just the sensors on the engine. i need to know if this engine and trans will bolt onto the old subframe or if i would have to use the one out of the 89 if it will bolt to the 93 body. any info anyone has will help. thanks
I am pretty sure it will bolt up, Might have to do minor mods, You could cross referance with the GM dealer to be %100 correct, I just installed a 89 tempest 2.8L V6 into a 91 cavalier RS, All I had to do is use the Tempest computer & wiring harness worked like a charm. Even the Auto Wrecking yard could help you out with that as well.
Good Luck Keep Us updated.
thanks but did you mean the engine and trans would bolt up to the stuff in the 93 or would i have to change the subframe and stuff. i usualy work on fords when it comes to mods like this, nothing against GM at all i just dont own any at the moment. any more info is appreciated
