help. are either of these intakes good??
Wednesday, August 30, 2006 6:49 AM
So I was looking on ebay for an intake for my 04 cavi. Came across both of these that look like they can do the trick.
I don't want to have to buy a new filter because both of them have @!#$ty filters, so if you think the filters @!#$ and I'll have to replace it, let me know.

Also, if you know where to get an intake for cheaper for the 04 i'd love for you to tell me. WAI would be best.

Thanks

save yourself the money, get a vibrant intake (all intakes are the same, your just paying for the name) and then go to pep boys or any auto store and get a k&n filter

To my knowledge, Vibrant doesn't make an intake for 03-05 models.

an intake is just an intake. buy the cheapest one and then get a K&N air filter

OK. not gonna go out and buy any expensive intake. This isn't a best intake for the 04 thread. I just need to know if the filters on those two intakes in the links are good. Meaning I wouldn't need to buy a new filter.

I realize I can buy a @!#$ intake for 30 bucks and get a K&N filter for it, but that probably puts me no further ahead than buying either one above once its all said and done.

So, getting back on topic are the filters on those intakes(especially the first one) any good?

thanks

^^ they are right but i have heard stories where people buy the $30 ones and they dont fit...or dont have brackets....or breather hose spots....or IAT sensor spots...its just stupid sometimes. just research what you are buying a little bit....those intakes are still gonan be there tomorrow im just telling you from personal experience what i have learned. i just went with AEM (2.4l) because i knew it would ALL be there and was gaurenteed to fit...im not worried to spend a few extra dollars. good luck with your decision

a few extra dollars.. i guess if you think 100 dollars is a few extra dollars then so be it..lol i have had like 3-4 ebay intakes.. i also have an aem intake that came with one of my 3 cavaliers..
they all mount the same the only thing with ebay intakes is that the iat sensor hole is always a bitch you just have to drill it out a little bit (just the rubber gromet) plug in the thing and it will be fine..

F that, why spend anything over $50 for a freakin intake? Aluminum tubing with some fittings in it, not even worth $60 in my opinoin. Get any intake from ebay. You may have to cut it down to fit, hopefully that they have the new ones for the eco that are the cheap ones. Then go to PEP Boys and buy a filter for it. Forget K&N, oil on an air filter, let me think here, there is suction on the other side of that filter, that oil going into my cylinders, no thank you. Forget K&N. I got one from E-Bay for an 02 and then introduced it to a saw! It fits now, so I have the little bong from the throttle body on there, big deal, from there is the intake straight down to the filter, which is not a K&N and never will be.

GIT 'ER DONE!

you do realize the only negativce effect this will have is if your car has a Mass Air Flow sensor and you put way to much oil on right? It can burn out a mass air flow if a drop of oil lands on the heating element..... and if that happens YOU did something wrong, and there is no MAF on our cars so your reasoning is retarded.

Now on the other hand.... I do agree with in saying forget K&N for a difference reason.... your paying extra for the name, buy any K&N style filter, they all work the same, no sence in paying more for the same thing

I would never pay anymore then 50 bucks for one...My dad got the first one the cosmo racing one for me for about 40 bucks last year. I honestly couldnt tell the difference...and you never really do on any vehicle..unless its boosted or has the need for it. But if you can get a super cheep one go for it ..if not save your money.

i got the 2002 ecotec motor and i went on ebay and purchased a cheapo intake for the z24 motor and it is a direct fitment. and an air filter is an airfilter. get one from ebay for a couple of bucks. or if you do what i did and purchase a z24 intake it should come with a filter. your not going to tell me that a kn is any better than an ebay filter. Hell if your that hard up for trying to squeeze extra horses out of an intake by being picky with the filter just say @!#$ the filter slap some mesh over your intake and call it a day!!

I have an eBay intake in my closet (well whats left of it after I tossed it across the yard, into the street -- rural road). All of the above except the breather hose

I ended up getting an RDFabs intake. Perfect fitment.

this is the one i purchased

1. it doesnt have those tacky welds thats just the pic
2. its a short ram they say cold air but its a short ram
3. well worth it dont waste your time buying intakes that are 100 bucks. a decent intake price can vary from some cheap tubing you find at home depot to this intake which ran me around 30 bucks and some change. the bung fits exactly the same its is a perfect fitment. If you purchase it and need some help just give me a buzz.

perfect fitment. That intake looks like the bung would be an issue. try to find one very similar to mine. the pictures are fairly descriptive

if you look close in the last picture you see a piece of metal sticking from the side. there was a bracket there. when you fit it in your engine bay the bracket lays right next to a screw you can removve and put over the bracket. I just broke the bracket off.
