Just picked up this Cav....

Just picked up a 97 Z24 with 65k for $2500. Has sunroof, and the other z24 stuff, no 5spd. though... Just wanted to know what I should look for in specific for problems and whatnot. I've caught a few already...rear tail light bulb socket is shot, keeps burning up bulbs...literally. And every now and then when I get into the car and slam the door shut...the blower fan for the heater and A/C comes on all by itself! No key in the ignition...and the switch is on off. Some kind of demon in there. Other then that, the car runs great. Just wish access to the automatic tranny fluid was easier. My 01 GA GT is the same way...pretty much inaccessible. But if there is anything anyone can tell me...thanks in advance.

yup water pumps are a bitch to change on that motor and if you take it to a dealer, your gonna get raped for about 1200 bucks to repair it and yes there has been issues w/ the #3 bearing

For that kind of money, I would just buy a newer 2.4L, change the water pump while it was out, and presto! Newer motor, new water pump....good to go! I've heard about the water pump problems before, but it seems to be hit or miss. But like all water pumps, it will go out eventually (hopefully its already been changed once). Any of you guys ever change an alternator on a 3.4L Dual Twin Cam? I did that once on a Lumina Z34 and vowed to never do it again.

But anyways...the 2.4 Twin Cam has a timing chain..right? Some dumbass at work keeps telling me that its a belt, and I could swear its chain driven...correct me if I'm wrong.

The LD9 has a timing chain... not a belt. It has a serpentine belt like every other motor... but not a timing belt. Your friend obviously has never gotten farther on the 2.4 than putting on an intake or exhaust. I wouldn't trust him for anything he has to say about the LD9 motor from now on if I were you.

Try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so then hook it back up. There may be a bug or something with the ECU. This might be able to reset it... Just a suggestion.

I really don't want to disconnect my batter because the car has the factory radio and I have no clue to what the TheftLoc code is.
