Heavy shift from 1to 2 and wierd RPM on HWY

Newbie, but with a question that needs an answer. I have had my Cavalier for over a year now and enjoy it very much. Thing is about a week ago the transmission started shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and hold on to 1st way to long. The second thing that is happing is that when on a flat straight away if I put on the cruise control the rmp's go up and down. Nothing major lest then a 1/4 of an inch and no one in the car feels it accept the driver. I took it to the transmission shop and they did a road test and felt all the problems. They then dropped the pan and the fluid looked as good as new (52k on the odometer) and no metal shavings and the right level. They said they think it's electrical. I have asked a few friends and they think its the fuel injectors. Anyone know of this happening in other j-body. Would be more then appreciative w/ any help you can give. Thank

I am having the same problem with mine... just about exactly..

usually when the engine is just about warmed up, (85deg or so) 1st into 2nd makes the car shudder, and on wet days,
it breaks loose..

what pisses me off, is when Im climbing all over it, and my foot's buried into it up to the knee, it seems to forget what its
doing, and hang around for a while at 6500-7000rpm.. as if its "misplaced" 2nd gear or something..

dunno..what it is... I think it has something to do with the PCM (computer) probably a voltage drop, somewhere..
(bad ground even)

I would plug a scanner into your car, and check for DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes)
reason I say is because guage lights burn out all the time.. yours might be burnt out..

An OBD2 scanner is a hand held multi-vehicle diagnostic computer, (sells for about 150.00CAN.. for a so-so good one)
pick it up @ CDN tire, or PrincessAuto. Buy a scanner for your car , to see if its an "ACTUAL" problem, before you start taking it
into shops, and paying money for "shrugged shoulders"....know what I mean...

the scanner comes with a book that explains the OBD2 system, and how to troubleshoot problems..etc..pretty user friendly..

check it out, and check back..

cheers

Both kinda sound like a bad 2nd gear solenoid.

mine was doing that too. it either didn't shift until WAY late or it shifted 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th as soon as i hit the gas. like 4th gear by 20MPH. mine was the throttle position sensor.

i never had a check engine light, but my abs light would kick on and then my check gauges light. none of the diagnostic machines i had it on at various shops picked anything up. i just happened to take it to a friend who owns a transmission shop. he said it was definately not the trans, probably a sensor, and suggested the TPS. i changed it and it was fine.

GO PATS!!!
