has anyone out there got any clips or pics, or even ideas and thoughts about drifting????????
yes...search for it, use google, etc.
my thoughts? don't try to do it in a J...or any other FWD vehicle.

you know, i love when people like to criticize others about their behavior,
but turn around and do the same freaking thing months later...
go to youtube.com and type in drifting, theres hundreds of videos
Personally not a big fan of drifting....but to each his own.

Can't drift a fwd car in its true sense like lilbit01 said. There is no lever arm to allow the back end to swing out and stay sideways through the turn (power in FWD is applyed at the point of rotation). You can power slide by pulling the e-brake and turning the wheel, then flooring it.... but it isn't anywhere near the same.
Oh and by the way, there is no such thing as a 2.0L SOHC engine in a sunfire. You have a 2.2L OHV... Just so that you are aware.
problem with "drifting" a FWD vehicle - bald spots on the tires. bald spots are bad.

drifting = .......stupid
it can be fun, in the snow, ya know? but i don't understand it on a course, style points? eh...not for me.
i'm prepared to get flamed, i could care less
i don't orgasm over a skyline or sylvia or w/e else cars there are like all other car n00bs.
Different strokes, man. It's no different than a hard core 1/4 miler saying road racing sucks. Or the road racer driver that says "How effin hard could it possibly be to do 200mph in a straight line? Or someone like me that thinks watching "stock cars" make left-handers at 200mph for three hours is, well, boring.
Besides, you gotta give props to the drifters. Just like any other form of racing, it takes talent and not just anybody can be good at it. Put Danica Patrick in a top fuel dragster and she'd probably freak. Put John Force in Danica's Indy car, he'd probably put it through a wall in the first hairpin. But drifting, it aint easy. It's one thing to accidentally get sideways because you entered a turn a little hot, and correct it. But to go in hot, throw it in sideways - on purpose - and hold it there? That takes a lot of skill and I give 'em props.
any motorsport based off opinion os BS
with any form of racing, whoever has the fastest time wins, plane and simple, how cool you can look is not a sport
In my area theres drift races occasionally, and there based on who comes in first, but you have to actually drift, you cant win by just turning. but for some reason the more you get into the pro's the more they care about style.
ultimate gay? tell me who says that? acting all high and mighty about something you don't understand equals stupidity. if you don't like it then don't watch it, don't try it. all in all it's a sport not a fad and it'll be here awhile. for those who try it props to all and have fun. the only reason i started this topic was to see if anyone tried it not to get people bitching and complaining that drifters are wasting their time.

I enjoy watching Formula D on G4 as much as the next ricer, but I wouldn't call drifting a sport. Sports have clear cut winners determined by simple mathematics (i.e. Racing and stick and ball sports). If it is based on opinion, it is just a competition (i.e. Cheerleading, skating, BMX, etc). Just because they have sponsors and it looks "Cool" doesn't make it a sport.
And yes it will be here for a while...Hell, Reality shows seem to still be going strong (game shows kind of died off though).
sport = compettition and for the record just cuz you watch formula or g4 dont make you a ricer. you watch it cus its your scene. there is an overall winner in drifting. just cus they don,t go in a circle making left turns for 3hrs. with nothing but white trash roasting in the sun watching its not a sport? seems kinda one sided. over all at the end of the day everyones in it for the rush.

Well, technically I watch it because it is natural instinct for me to go to G4 hoping ATOS is on.
Why they even bother driving the cars tandem is beyond me. The trailing car never passes the lead car unless he/she spins or hits the wall. Lame.
Drag, Formula 1, GT1 GT2 and P2, SCCA, cart racing among many other forms of racing don't go in circles for exhausting periods of time, have a more refined fan base and are actually exciting to watch when drivers pass based on the different characteristics of each motor and suspension (opposed to everyone being almost equal with the exception of different aerodynamic setups in NASCAR or BUSCH league). The new diesel's in the Audi P2 cars this season for one have done pretty darn well.
On a side note...I could have sworn I told you in a past thread that you don't have a 2.0L SOHC motor in your 96' Sunfire. It's a 2.2L OHV
This thread has been exhausted way too much, I for one will let it die.
i like drifting, and i watch it on g4, but the whole technique before speed thing kinda turns me away. But it looks like alot of fun, the closest i've ever come to drifting was in a john deere gator on dirt =].

yes it will be here for decades....
i understand drifting, i'm high&mighty
you posted on a front wheel drive forum, not many of us have "drifted" or practiced drifting
