this is a really stupid question but for some reason my left driver side rim always gets covered in grease, ive got it checked out at the gm dealership locally and they said theres nothing wrong with it. but within say a day its back covered in grease again.Im sorta lost on this one. the grease looks dark black and is covered with like a grainular soft filimant?. i just recently replaced my brakes with not so much better performance but stock sized upgraded versions(slotted rotors,monroe brake pads)
sounds like you have a bad balljoint dust boot. either that or the tie rod ends. look at bothe of those and see if there is grease coming out of them substantially, either that or a cracked boot. another thing to check is the grease zerks
Coming from one of three places: Ball joint, Tie Rod end, CV joint. Check them each out, one will have a torn boot or something that will be a dead giveaway.
thnks for the reply ill do it this weekend as im switching my wheels to winter ones. you think a dealership wouldve caught that but meh ill look harder again

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ::breath:: hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
phew!!
it costs money to pay the dealership mechanic to look at your car. you car is/should still be warrantied...which means it gets looked at for free.
GO PATS!!!
I have this on both wheels. I've always thought it was brake dust.
Is what you're all talking about a soot texture?
a soot like texture is brake dust. its happens to cars with rims..well atleast my sunfire and my bros cavy. both have aftermarket rims. just a car wash usually cleans them but if it becomes greasy like my issue then have someone look at it
Probably a CV joint or wheel bearing (but I am not familiar with FWD wheel bearing locations). Any funky sounds? Also could be brake fluid leaking then you are covering it with brake dust so it gets a kind of mixed color.

Break dust will stick to the grease and overtime it hardens, best thing is to pull the wheel off and look at all the joints to see if they are sweating grease, take some 409 or purple power and spray it on the rims, scrub with a nylon brush and pressure wash it off.
