You can change that in your profile. Go to your "control panel" up above and then click on "Edit your Profile". Just delete your "last name" and put whatever you want to show up as your name in your "First name" slot. Simple as that.

I had the same issue. Rather than fudge your name as Jason suggested, you can do the following:
Under Control Panel, in the forum section, click "edit my forum options"
Then under the global options section, in the "author" line, fill in the name you want to appear with your forum messages.

do what he said. jason's method will get you warned or temp banned. yes, lots of people have a fake name in their profile. however, unlike you, they aren't drawing attention to themselves by posting about it.
