I always say to each his or her own on customizing their own car.
In any situation, which would you do? Help or Not
Sometimes people need some guidance. I work a Advance Auto Parts and i find myself helping newbies all the time. They want to order stuff all the time and sometimes don't even know what the part does. One guy keeps coming in cuz he is always messin' up his car. As you might guess, he's got a civic with MR7's, one wiper blade instead of two and a big APC sticker in the windshield. APC is a great company and all, there are only a couple of parts that i don't agree are good quality. For example, the headlight bulbs are stock bright and more expensive. It's been said, "You can't spell CRAP without APC." What does everyone else think?
Do we guide a newbie or let him be?
Remember, YOU can be a newbie too!

Offer advice or "informed opinions", but still let the person make up their own mind.
Particularly if you have fist-hand experience with a part, I would think your customers would find your knowledge useful, as long as you phrase it right (i.e. don't insult their purchasing decisions).

^^^of course not, i always treat people the way i want to be treated. i give'em advise and never tell them not to purchase something. sometimes i wish there was less rice in this world

By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First, by reflection, which is noblest;
Second, by imitation, which is easiest;
and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
