just got a 96 4-door cavi, and i got some (rudimentary?) questions. it has a 2.2 ohv, and an auto tranny. what i want to do is stick a 2.4 w/ a 5-speed in it. i also want to slap a turbo in there and get (if possible) around 425-450 hp, pull at least 10.99's and hit 170 in a straight line run. all w/o juicing it. i would also like it to be able to be a daily driver. this will be my first foray into a tuner, so i'm kinda flying blind here. ANY help would be awesome.
and if the hp number isnt cohesive w/ the 1/4 mi time and the top speed, what would be?
time really isnt a HUGE issue, and money wise............? i think that 8k+ wouldnt be too unreasonable
it probaly cost close to 8k for the motor, tranny, turbo, upgraded internals, and labor (if you are paying someone to do it). not to mention the hours of tuning so it wont blow up. and most if not all tracks have rules when going that fast. like your car needs a role cage so thats probaly another couple hundred if not a couple $1000. you better sit back and think about this sort of project. do some research. not just on here use google to find out the info you need
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
The suspension setup alone, without labor, to go 170mph safely will cost over $3k. Going fast isn't just about a motor...
I think the engine and tranny with labor will cost over $5k (ever price out a custom built tranny?)
Turbo setup, to get 450hp is going to be a good $4k, equal length custom manifold, custom 3.5" exhaust, custom intercooler pipes, huge and efficient (aka not an ebay ricer intercooler), etc.
Safety devices, such as body hugging seats, 5 point harness, roll cage, etc, will cost a good $2500
Engine management system for your 7k+ beast is around $3k (ElectroMotive or FAST)
Big brake kit, since 170mph will eventually need stopping, $1000
I would be surpised if somebody could hit 170mph AND 450hp for less than $15k

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
now, with all that said, realize we're NOT telling you not to do it. we would all LOVE to see this happen, but, you must realize, that 15-20$ K would make a really good down payment on a car that would come stock faster than you would build, and be a much nicer daily driver at the same time. when you're looking at this kind of investment, before you make the leap, make sure you know what you're getting yourself into, and make damn sure its what you really want.

hey, i really do appreciate all the help, advice, and comments.
i have been away or i would have posted sooner, but in the mean time i have done a little bit of research outside of here, and have basically concluded that 8k, wouldnt come close to build up my cavi like i mentioned before. after i did the research and the math, i ball-parked the engine/tranny and components (turbo, timer, intercooler, etc) at just over 12,500. that is of course AFTER i before i even buy the donor motor and tranny.
as to the concerns about labor and the misc. fab work that would need done (cage, headers, etc) i can handle most of that. and what i have problems with, i can (hopefully) get the help i would need on here.
one question i did have though, and i'm not sure if it does make a difference or not, but should i be looking for an internally or externally waste gate turbo? is one gonna be better than the other in performance, maintance, accessability, etc...
