I would first like to introduce myself. i am new to the forum and look to be a regular in the community. My project is a 97' cavalier base model coupe. the car is not actually mine, i have a lot of experience building cars, mainly race cars, and this is my first show car build im doing for my girlfriend. i have already gotten a body kit lined up, a set of enkei wheels, an air ride system, and have begun reupholstering the interior and sound system. the only thing that stumps me is what to do with the motor. i would like to swap out the old engine for a new 2.4L long block. it is to my understandings that there are many different models of the 2.4L. my question is; what model form which car is going to be the best build? Which has the most aftermarket accessories? Which would showw the most performance for a NA setup? thank you for your help and i look to confide in your knowledge furthur as time goes by. also feel free to check out my website for my new race team in the making. you will see most of my work.
welcome to JBO Billy. just my personal opinion, but i would think about swapping in the Ecotec as opposed to the 2.4
fairly easy to find for sale, and you could build those up pretty good. im by no means a performance guy, so i couldnt throw you any actual #'s but i do read alot of the performance posts, and ecotec seems to be the engine swap of choice for most.
im sure you'l get many more posts with opinions, but look around the performance section. theres tons of good info around.
and again, welcome to the
thanks. so if the 2.2L could possibly be a better swap then how well will the wiring harnesses adapt and line up? you know of anyone that have completed this swap that i could speak to? thanks again.

lots of people on this site alone have done the swap. just got to search for them
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
putting an eco in a 97b would require swapping virtually every wire in the car, as well as the gas tank, and possible the radiator. it has been done (as said above), but requires alot of time and invested money. read up in the performance forum, theres literal metric tonnes of info in there.

best suggestion i can give you is the 2.4 is a good swap..personally i recommend a 2.3 quad swap..either way youll need the engine, tranny, pcm and wiring for the bay...but at least you wont have to cut and weld anything..and youll have more power to begin with
