$800 to spend on my J
Thursday, January 11, 2007 4:45 PM
Hey guys, I've been browsing this site probably for as long as I've had my car, and really haven't done much to it yet. It's a black 05 Sunfire, and so far all I've done is tint and I've painted my front calipers red. Over the holidays through work and gift money I've come up with $800 I've decided to spend on it, and just wonder what the best things to buy would be. I've been looking at the RKSport Ram Air hood, but I dunno how thats gonna look on a stock car. I've also been considering some type of dual exhaust, most likely just the standerd one from a GT. I really want to lower the car, but I'm not sure if that will be covered with 800 bucks? Any ideas on what I can get for the money? Oh, and if anyone has a pic of a 03+ Fire with the Ram Air hood, that isnt the silver car on the RKSport site, please post it! Thanks!

If you were closer I would sell you my air ride.
You should definately lower it first. Get a good set of shocks and springs. You might be able to find some good stuff in the classifieds. You should also look in your regions forum because people sell alot of stuff in there that you can pick up instead of paying shipping.

My vote is for suspension.

I love mine.

You can get it for way under $800.

if thats all you have to spend and see a suspension you like, save for it. i made the mistake of keep wanting to buy little stuff instead of getting the big stuff on my first cav.

go with suspension. KYB AGX struts, eibach Prokit springs, and strut tower bars front and back would be good

I wouldnt waste it modifying my car, it wont increase the value by a dime.

I would much rather invest it into stocks, or a investment fund

Plan for retirement, the time to start is now, while your young.

^^^^^^ why does everyone always say that? It is a HOBBY, you are definately preachin to the wrong crowd! If I was worried about what it was worth, I wouldn't have bought a J-body to begin with. Most people on here dont wanna drive a stock J the rest of thier lives! I say do some suspension work, $800 can get you a damn nice set up

It isnt a bad idea. I dont have stocks yet. But I do have a 401K set up that a put into, and I'm only 20 and planning for retirement. Social security wont be around in about 2045, or 2050.

People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

Suspension is nice, but I always say start with Tires and work your way up from there.

Tires and Wheels

Shocks and Springs (or airride, or coilovers)

Swaybars

StrutBars

No matter what you do to the car the tires are all that there is between you and the road. If you decided to not go with tires first I'd do Springs and Struts. KYB AGX's and a Pro-Kit or. if you go to gravanatuning.com they have a Koni Yellow setup with springs for I belive under $800.00 that would be perfect.

As far as struts for our cars that are available.

Struts: (lowest to highest performance)
AGX < tockico D-spec < Koni Yello

Coilovers:
Tein SuperStreets vs KW Variants 1->3. Tossup but the Tein's win in price.
