Intake Installation
Thursday, February 22, 2007 11:17 AM
I just received my Short Ram Intake from Cosmo Racing in the mail, and I decided to wait until it's a little warmer out before I try to install it. It came with instructions, and it's a pretty straight forward thing, I know, but I wanted to know if there's any small things, or even obvious things that I should know about, and may not. I've never laid a hand under any car's hood before, and so I might not be aware of some things I should be. Anyways, the point of this post is just to see if there's anything I don't know about that I should, before I try to install my intake. Thanks.

taking out the stock air intake, you have to take the battery out. atleast i did..

unbolt it and yank the airbox out the other side.

Another newbie here.. The only thing i personally have done to my car was to change the oil. That was it.

So here goes,

I just got myself an intake for my sunfire (1999 GT 2.4 Auto) from cosmoracing as well. With it comes the filter, s-pipe, rubber hose, the clamps and mounting brackets. I just have a few questions about it. The pipe itself has a hole and one thin tube that's sticking out. I assume that the cone filter goes to the 'hole' end and the IAT sensor goes into that hole. Am i correct so far?

I looked under the hood of the car, even got the stock tube off the airbox filter, and i noticed that the IAT (or if its the IAT that I saw) seemed small for the hole on the new intake pipe. Will I need an adapter for it? If so, what is it called and where can I get one?

Next question. The rubber hose gets put on the thin tube sticking out of the new intake pipe, is that correct? If that's right, where does the other end get connected?

Hopefully someone can help me. I'd really appreciate it. I just don't want to bring this to a mechanic for I know this just a simple bolt on job. If someone would point me to the right direction, I know I'd be able to do it. Thanks a lot in advance.

(I hope i won't get comments like 'youre stupid' or 'I shouldnt be modding...' I read the other topics about this and some had mean comments in it )

i really can't help you out but my question is this : who the f*%k is cosmoracing anyway???

i got mine form cosmo and because i use a throttle body spacer for my nitrous setup it was a sorta pain int he ass. we had to bend the bracket alote to get it to fit..then we had to trim the bendable hose. Im sure if i didnt need that spacer it wouldve fit fine..just make sure to oil your filter b4 you put it on..cause aperently its K&N knockoff

The fact that its a short-ram intake will hinder the performance boost. Yes, it is permitting more airflow, but it will not be cold air because of the fact that it is being pulled from the engine compartment. I had bought one for my sunfire a while back and eventually just built another from autozone. I wanted to actually pull in cold air, which to do that you have to run it down into the side (where the stock one runs). Its a decent amount of work, but its worth it, I noticed an increase in power after doing it. If you like I can post pics of mine.

i'm sick and tired of ppl flaming intakes that arent AEM, or Injen, or Fujita, yada yada
and intake is an intake. its a pipe and a filter. thats it. why pay an extra $100 for a name brand?

my first intake was make of exhaust tubing, and a reactive filter, grand total $36.50 Canadian. But i got my AEM for a wicked deal, no difference other than it says AEM on it

The setup I've currently got cost me something like $60 filter and all (the filter being most expensive).

Its just a damn tube with a different company's logo onit. Glad you saved the extra $40 of so bucks.

look man, calm down before you start something. i'm just saying that if someone wants a nice looking intake that ALSO works like the rest than why not. i'm not gettin' a $200 dollar intake cuz i believe it works better. i'm getting it cuz it looks better, works the same, and i don't mind spending the money. i know it'll fit PERFECTLY without and "customizing" or "modifing". that's all.

compensation? yeah, you wish. was that the best you had. go ahead and say something else. i've said enough and i'm done with you. period.

Hmm.. this is def. a dumb question, but why not just mount the k&n cone filter to the short black tube? why bring the air filter to behind the battery?
