HELP!!! BAD noise under the hood!!!
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 10:27 AM
so i have a 96 sunfire GT with the 2.4 Twin cam in it. I absolutly love this car but it sounds like a peice of crap because there is a clunking noise comming from under the hood. I cant seem to figure out what it is. So far iv determind it nothing with the engine (but im not a expert so i could be wrong) and I dont think its the exaust. I did notice that when I turn the steering wheel the noise goes away. Power Steering pump maybe? i dunno but if anybody has any ideas please let me know. Iv sick of people thinking my car sucks because of a stupid noise when it really runs great. Thanks!

check you motor mount on the right side of the car where the mount bolts to the engine. i have the same car and it was making clunking noises and the mounting bolts were almost all the way out.

It dose it when im stiped, sitting there idoling. When i turn the stering wheel in etheir direction it goes away. im not sure if it still dose it when im moving, but i dont think so, and if it dose i cant hear it over the normal sounf of the car. One more thing, when i turn the steering wheel and it stops, if i rev the engine it will come back, so the position of the steering wheel dosnt matter, that just makes it go away for a second. Thanks so much guys!
