Hi all, back again after a long j-body less absence. I doubt anyone remembers me anyway, heh. Anyway, last July I bought a 96 Sunfire (the one in my profile) and not too long after I bought it, the transmission in my brother's 98 Z24 imploded. He had it checked at a transmission shop and at the time the shop guessed it would cost around 2 grand to fix it. That was way too much for my brother, so he started to drive my Sunfire back and forth to work. It was getting to the point where he had the car much more than I did, so eventually he bought it from me with the promise that he'd let me buy it back from him in the spring when and if he got his Z24 repaired. For the longest time, to me, it seemed as if he would never get his Z24 fixed, almost like he didn't care about it, and I sincerely believed that I'd never get the Sunfire back. Well some things happened, I went through 3 crappy cars since then, and now he's got his Z24 back in the same transmission shop that looked at it the first time. They now figure it'll be around 1200 bucks with parts, labor and tax to fix it. 400 bucks for a used tranny, 350 for a new clutch kit with slave cylinder, 150 for new spider gears, etc. He had it towed there yesterday and they say it'll be ready by Monday or Tuesday. The tranny and everything else is all ready to go back in, they figure it'll take 3-4 hours to do. What this means is that my brother will get his own Jbody back, and I'll be getting my Sunfire back! The Sunfire doesn't seem to have suffered too much since my brother has had it. He put about 1000 km a week on it going back and forth to work. He wasn't too keen on maintenance though. It had maybe 2 oil changes since he's had it. I'll be driving my Sunfire by this time next week.
Oh,BTW, my mother just this past Wednesday bought herself a 96 4 door automatic Cavalier. Only 209000 kms. Body is great 'cept for some paint chipping, tires are very good, brakes are perfect, steering and suspension is great, engine is nice and quiet (much more so than the Sunfire), the tranny shifts fine... She paid $1530 bucks for it. I say she got a great deal on it.
