Why wouldn't a 95 or 96 engine bolt right into a 97 chassis other than the sensors between OBD1 and OBD2?

a 98+ is when it becomes the 2200 and then something change but still thats mostly wiring issues.

1996 is OBD II, as are 70% of 1995s, as far as J-cars are concerned.

So a 96 engine will just drop right in, right? I've got a couple of mechanics around here telling me that the 97 engine is different than the other two.
