What's up everyone. I was a member here a year or two ago when I had my 1995 Sunfire. It had the Pacesetter 4-1 header, no cat, magnaflow resonator, and Borla muffler. Also had the Secret Weapon intake, drilled/slotted rotors and 16'' Enkei 5+ rims. It was my first car and I absolutely loved it. Sadly, I totaled it last summer around this time and was forced to get a new vehicle quickly. I ended up with an Explorer.
Anyways, I'm back in the market for a new car, and I was originally only looking for an Integra, Prelude, or 3000gt. However, tonight while driving home from work I really remembered how much I missed my good ol' Sunfire. I know they aren't as fast as the other options, but I really am considering getting back into the J-scene. I was just curious as to what others thought. I never had any major problems out of my Sunfire, other than a water pump problem once, but it was driven by my mother the full time until I got it, so it was babied. If I was to go out and buy another used one, what are some major problems to look for?
Any advice is helpful and appreciated.
Pretty much the same things you look for when buying any other car. I've been told that 2.4 engines tend to have head gasket problems, but havn't seen anybody have that problem yet. Exept for making sure the tranny and clutch work well (if you get an izuzu manual), I can't really think of anything else. Other people here probably know more problem areas than I do...I've only had tranny issues. J-s have been pretty dang reliable for me.
Yeah my old one was pretty reliable, but it was a 2.2. I'm just debating whether or not I really want to get another Sunfire.
i got nothin against sunfires or anything but if u could get ure hands on a cav black in color u wont regret buying it 2.4l are peepy i take integra's like they are not moving to 170 and then they pass me cause they have no governor so its all up to u the other day i saw full buddy club kit sunfire with the exhaust commin out in da middle of the car i thought it looked pretty cool
ive had no problems with my 02 cavy with the 2.2, 2200. it has 53k miles and its had its time at the track as well... so other than the daily highway drive to work it hasnt had an "easy" life so far lol, babied in someways but i guess i have to admit its been beat on a bit as well. i say cavy over sunfire but either way the j scene is a good direction to head in
