Ported Cylinder Head?

I'm obviously new to cars, and I've seen this term quite a bit around here, so what the hell does it mean to get a ported head? What exactly are the benefits? I checked howstuffworks, and googled it up, and I just get a bunch of prices >.> Any links to some information on it would be great. Thanks guys.

Porting and Polishing the head of an engine allows a higher volume of air to flow into engine and allows it to flow smoother with less restriction.

^right, your basicly grinding out excess metal to make the hole that leads to/from the valves bigger, and more funnel shaped. port matching is when you match up the holes leading to the manifolds, with the holes of the manifolds. elimenating sharp edges ar protruding gaskets. with your ecotec engine you best bet would be to port the intake manifold first as its easier and ive heard you can take off 6 mm diameter.

oh and youll need new internals to handle a pretty big turbo to mke 350 whp.

im new to the forum but not THAT new to cars. so ask away.

Listen F***ers. FASTERTHANAHONDA is a joke because I WORK FOR HONDA. I'll talk @!#$ about Fords to, that doesn't mean I can beat a 12 second mustang.
