Is it safe to remove the hood liner?

or would the heat warp the stock hood?

Lose it, my 2k base Cav (and my sisters 2k base, and my friends 2k base) do not even have it stock. Theres not enough heat there to even make it all that warm, let alone warp it.

Its a fire blanket, not a heat shield.

I have removed that thing from every car I have ever owned, never had one issue

I think it is actually a noise damping liner.

Actually I think it's both a noise dampener and a fire blanket. I can really hear my intake now that I removed mine.

You shouldn't have any problems, just make sure your battery terminals won't come into contact with your hood. ie any large terminals for amplifiers and what not, before you do it. I made that mistake on a 2nd gen once and had a minor electrical fire under the hood. If your not sure, just pour some baking powder or granulated flour on you battery, close your hood, and look for white spots on the liner after you open it again. If there's nothing there (or you don't have anything hooked to your battery besides the stock terminals) you'll be fine.
