Well i bought my second car last night. A 2000 Cavalier Z24.
I lie it ALOT! It make a rattling noise every now and then but im thinking its the timing chain. Any ideas, i know i didnt give much. info, sorry. The guy put a custom flowmaster exhuast on it two, dual pipes, sounds kinda ricey so im gonna take it to a muffler shop though.
Last problem.. Say im driving down the road going 40, I pop it into neutral, the engine revs up a little and doesnt come down untill i either start downshifting or come to a stop. Now, he said it was chipped, but after reading what was on here, ive learned that "mod chips" arent really anything but a fuel waster. Any ideas on this too? Also, where would this "chip" be located?
It also has a Cold air intake.. or well, i guess its a warm air intake cause its still in the engine bay right? how worried do i need to be about driving in the rain with this? YOu can see it in the picture below..
Anyways, here it is.. 115K miles, body kit, decent sound system. Ice cold a/c, etc etc... Thanks guys!
not sure about the rattle just depends on where its coming from...hopefully not the engine..... the idle could be a vacuum leak i had the same problem with my 00m cant remember which line it was ..... and as far as driving in rain you have nothing to worry about unless u have a hole in your hood above the filter
but looks like a pretty decent car, cant wait to see what u do with it
I think the knock is coming from the engine.. or the timing chain but i dont think so..
Im so urked. I totally check out everything before i bought it, I dunno why it wasnt doing in then, ughh..
Any known problems with a knock on the 24s?

Well good news.. I reset my computer (in the car) for about an hour.
Idle... Perfect.
RPMs not dropping down while moving, even in neutral... Fixed. Perfect.

Getrag rattle? Can you explain.. arent the 2000 and up cavys using the getrag or something transmission? Unlike the old Isuzu junk?

Describing the getrag rattle? dont worry it just does it, mine has for 6 years and 2 tranny's. it happens at low engine speed and high load conditions usually.
WEll at least its normal, hopefully that is what it really is.
They want =$450 for just labor on a new timing chain, no less the 100-175 in parts.
