When I start my car, it idles at about 1200 RPMs for a minute or two, and then drops to the usual 800-900. It's always done it, and that's fine. However, if I don't let the revs drop to where they should be before driving, I notice some hesitation when I get on it. I'm wondering if that's the only ill effect of me not waiting for the revs to drop, or if I could be doing something funky to my engine by not waiting for them to drop before driving. Usually I let them hit 800-900 before I take off, but sometimes if I'm just moving my car I don't bother, unless it could be hurting my car in some way?
I know this is a silly question, but at least it's in the right forum, right?
tis a normal thing. It takes a few moments for the ECU to get the proper fuel settings based on the various sensors it reads from. To be on the safe side, it runs the idle a bit higher.
If it only takes a few seconds for the revs to drop, I'd just be patient and hold off...
