I was wondering if it is worth turbo charging my 1996 sunfire or just anding performance parts and if any buddy got ideas on good performance parts let me know
You will probably get a better answer from the performance or boost forum.
Also, click
here and
here. For the second link, check out the 2 mini faq's at the top of the forum page.
It really depends on what kind of performance gains you want, your budget and how far you are willing to go with your car. First figure out if you think it's worth spending alot of money on this car...is your car beat up? alot of miles? Do you have the money to restore it and modify it? Those are the questions you hae to ask yourself. When you figure that out, I'd be glad to help you out.

well i have a few questions and thoughts um i have a 2.2l ohv and what are the different between the 2 engines 2.2 ovh and 2.2 2200 but anyway some people told me and sites said the same that i can turbo this car (2.2l ohv) and get a very low gain of 171 whp and 191 wtq and seen this in thought i wonder why WHY so little boost and that a 8 psi! some people get to at least 200 to 250 whp with that much psi. What is wrong with this engine is it even worth a turbo. So far i have a 2.5 inch pipe with a y pipe for dual mufflers and a weapon r intake custom made with ram air and i was wondering if i should just stop and get a different car or engine,if car i would get the colbalt ss supercharge and engine the z24 engine and chevy offered 2089 to put it in so i dont know what to lean on anymore so some one please help!
The reason for the low HP on only 8 psi is 2.2OHV motor only puts down 95ishp WHP stock.
There are a lot of differences between the 2200 and 2.2. The 2200 got a redesigned cam and head. My suggestion with the 2.2/2200 is to push a lot of boost through it, its the most effective way to make hp with it (I plan to once I get some better internals). And FstCavZ24 is right on the dot, its because of the low initial hp. 8psi is roughly a multiplier of 1.5 (1.5x95 = 142.5hp). 15psi is about double (95x2 = 190hp).

so what internal should i get and how much of a differents will it make to for whp gain cause again 190hp isnt really anything so what would be the better aproch to getting true hp out of this car and again I go back to my original options should i get a new engine (z24 model) oh and rob if the 2200 has the redesigined cam and head what does the 2.2l have or are they the same engine let me know somethin asap
o and what makes the z24 engine better then the other lower forms besides the obvious like it being a v6 and a side note this my seem like a odd question and sorry if it does but the Mitsubishi evo is a 4cyl right so if haveing so much hp and its still a 4cyl is it possible to make our wonderful cavaliers become monsters like that....or better(wishful thinking)
The LD9 isn't decidedly better past having more hp (although many beg to differ). Yes, the Mitsubishi Evo is in fact a 4cyl (as is the impreza although it is a boxer-4). You should be able to make 200hp on the same bottom end. All you're really going to need will be intake, exhaust, turbo, and possibly some headwork. The heads are not the same.

ok what kinda of head work is required cause i have the intake and exhaust clear and i change my muffler to a y pipe so breathing should be no problem and a custom weapon r intake and that said do i need to change my header?cause its stock o and i dont how big of a issus it is but i have crazy milage it 102200 and dont know if its turbo safe so what can i do to check my compression and i dont know if Putting engine restoration after every oil change(which i use senthitic...icant spell that word sry)and keep my compression regular or at its best o and Merry Christmas to all of jbody my all your hp dreams come true
I'd suggest looking around a bit more before trying anything, but you have to have a new header for the turbo to connect. Mileage shouldn't be an issue unless all the parts are stock (as long as you've kept up with routine maintenance you should be alright there, mine is almost 140k). By headwork I mean port and polish. You'll want to replace your rockers and pushrods as well along with injectors and possibly a new fuel pump. You will want a new exhaust, the stock one isn't big enough to run a turbo efficiently (and certainly isn't big enough to achieve 200hp safely). A side note since you mentioned compression, you have to run premium gas once you turbocharge the engine because you're changing the compression ratio.

Wrong forum for the "200hp" part (my mistake), but the point stands.

ok with that said can you give me a list of stuff i should get to go turbo and what sites i can go to find these parts like the rockers and pushrods, injectors and fuel pump i should get and maybe even the turbo and should i get a new flywheel and clutch plate with the bundle i got the exhaust part set considering i have 2 mufflers so if you can feed me with info on were i can find da goods thxs alot

You can get the flywheel if you wish, I didn't because I plan on running a significant amount of boost through my engine (eventually). As for the rest, theres a sticky post in the boost forum about all the parts you will need. And btw, google is your friend.
