hey gang, i dont have a J body yet, but i was thinking about getting one in the next couple of months. im an owner of a nasty 4th gen Fbody, but i was actually thinking about selling it and getting a 97+ cavalier z24 or sunfire GT vert'. ive owned my f body for almost 3 years now, and i love it, but i think its time to sell it and get something else. ( I could always get something else down the road)

anyway, my friend used to have a 97 or 98 z24 vert, and it seemed pretty quick and i also liked the design of the car, it was pretty sweet. pwr everything, white top, white leather interior. it was also an automatic.

From what little searching ive done, i see that the 5spds stock were pretty peppy, running low-mid 15s on street tires.
Are the automatic convertibles alot slower?
now i dont want to say i wont mod the car, because i will

ive already seen that i could get a header for the car, and i could always make my own CAI if i didnt want to buy a kit.
I have a wet kit sitting here- it might go on the t/a, but i could always remove it and use it for the future Jbody.
I c that they have aftermarket clutches for the 5spds. do they happen to make stall converters for the autos?

This wont be a dedicated track car- i just wanted to get something that would not attract as much attention as the t/a, get better average mpg, and still run somewhere in the 13s-14s whether it would be n2o assisted or not.

Is there any certain year that i should avoid? what would be better, auto or 5spd? i was really shooting to get a vert' but a vert in a 5spd in the color i like and still stay within the sub $5k pricerange, but that really narrows down my choices.

either way
if i was you, (OP), I'd get a 2000, they look nicer than the older ones, although the better looks are subjective.
and get a 5speed. auto is just not the same...
