I Just finished cutting my downpipe removing the stock exhaust manifold and catolytic converter. I went to go put my new tsudo header on and guess what... it didnt @!#$in fit.!!!!! so i tried moving the computer, i removed the valve cover, and i still cant get it in there. I dont know what to do. i cant drive my car and right now im @!#$. the only thing i can thing of doing is some home clamping the stock parts back on and taking it to a muffler shop and have them weld it back up. if i can get the header on the block then i will have no problem with the rest of the install. BUT IT DOSNT FIT for some reason. the box it came in said 2002+ cavalier and the gasket fits my engine perfictly. but i cant get the header on. all i can do is sit here and think about how @!#$ i am. because i need to drive my car in two weeks. I drive a 2003 Cavalier LS Sport w manual transmission. ANY help is much appreciated.

are you sure they didnt send you a header for a 2.4 or 2.2 and not the ecotec like you need?
Undo the lower mount, leave the car in gear and push the car forward to rotate the engine forward, have someone help you and when you have the motor rotated forward put on the emergency brake. that should buy you enough room to slip the header in.

the lower mount is going to be damn near impossible to uninstall i put it in with an impact gun i no longer have. god dangit is that the only option i have?? the only thing else i can think of if removing the head which and i dont have the tools required to do that

You better get a long break over bar to get the lower mount loose then. I would not take the head off, just asking for trouble there.

Yes, if you can find a hook or something to attach a come-a-long too. In my old Grand Prix i had to tilt the engine forward to change spark plugs.
Tom Maldonado wrote:if i took the top mount off would i be able to do the same thing? because i think i can take that one off.
If you lake the top mount off without taking the bottom off it will not move far enough to get the header in. You can try though.

your 03 is an ecotec right? if it is, the box should say ecotec on it. i would call the company and give them the product number on the box and cross reference it. i have an 01 2.2 cavalier, with the manifold in the front. i put in a 1 peice obx 4-2-1 header which wraps all the way around the engine. i had it on a lift but, i just removed everything off the front of the engine ie: thermo housing, alternator, rad fans and more. it took some fanaglein but it did go up there from underneath. now that you have the oem off, you should put them next to each other and compare the bolt pattern. have you tried putting it in from the bottom, thats how most of the headers i put in have to go. good luck

take the old header and place against the new see if the even line or look close i did one one a 03 neon and the headers they sent were for the car yet when we bolted it in one side lined up and the other didn't so tired starting form the other end same thing just reverse. so we noticed that the bolt holes were 1/2 inch off so we took some bolts and a pry bar and bolted the old header to the new one and put in front of a fire for a few hours and the heat relaxed the new one enough that the holes then lined up. the heat relaxed the stainless one and not the cast one which is what we wanted so when we tried again it bolted directly in place. try that easiest trick i know of and simpler then what has been said so far i believe. thats is if its for a eco and not a 2.2 like previously stated.
Hey guys i removed the upper mount and that gave me the room i needed. I removed the top motor mount, and tilted the engine and that gave me enough room to fit in the header. only problem now is it hte header wont fit on with all of the studs in. some of the studs did come out of the block when i pulled the stock header but i put them all back in with out the bolts. I might have to remove the studs out of the block because, surprise surprise it wont slide on with all on them in. This header was built with Murphy's law, im convinced. This project wont be said and done till next week probably. Thanks for your help guys i proboly wouldnt have thought of removing the mount

Just drill out the holes on the header i had to do that with my turbo manifold to it just barely fit on the studs to but i was lucky since the motor was out of the car.

haha if his car is and 03 its automatic that he has an ecotec.. .

hey anzcav, now adays you never know. for some strange @$$ reason someone could of did a swap before he owned the car and down graded. i cant say i would be surprised in the least bit. its better to ask then to assume you know

i guess... but unless they swap to a 3*00 series motor i would highly dought its anything other then an ecotec... if your aware of the things that has to be done just to go from an older motor to an ecotec then you would see why.
can we get a pic of the header? we can tell your right away if its for your car..
well, if you have an 03, and the engine blows your gonna want to fix it. if your broke, like most of us are, and you know of an older jbody with good powertrain but bad body, you have a swap. im not saying its the logical thing to do, but stuff like that happens everyday. if you dont research on what your buying, theres no telling what you could end up with when you buy a used car. like i said, its not logical, but ive seen lots of people smoking while pumping gas. thats not that smart either but it happens too often.
anyways, tom have you tried comparing the header and the manifold to check for differences and hole alignment?

if his ecotec is busted ... its still cheaper and easier to find a low mileage eco then it is for an ld9. a good ld9 alone is not cheap. i have owned and eco a few ld9s and still have my ohv. the only time it has been recorded that a 03+ jbody has ever had an ld9 and not an eco was a sunfire from gm.. sorry man its true .. this is just not somethin that happens any day.
your not getting it. he has and eco period!!
yea yea yea, he has an eco, i got that. i was simply stating that its always good to ask, even if your stating the obvious. i think we've really got off topic on this post, sorry tom, let us know of your progress.
