Newbie from Germany
Wednesday, March 12, 2008 5:39 AM
Hi there, my name is Felix and I am glad to have found this forum.
2 years ago I imported a Sunfire 2004/Ecotec 2.2 with 22000mls from the states.
It seems that it had an engine damage due to overheating (I see orange color at all places of the room aroung the engine). So I assume that the car got a new engine, because I found several stamps on the engine with "01".
The Sunfire is an absolutely rare model here in Germany. I don't know anybody other who knows this type.
First I was shure to get support by "Opel-GM", because the engine was constructed by Opel in Germany.
But.... the engines of Opel Astra etc are similar, but in the detail completely different........
Now I hope to find some interesting infromations in your community. Until now the car drives perfect, sometimes a little bit sputtering while throtteling, but doesn't matter.
Best regards from Germany
Felix

Welcome to the Org. If you're looking for information, familiarize yourself with the search function and you'll have little problem finding whatever it is your looking for. But, if you do have any questions, and after searching, still have no answers.. feel free to start up a new thread in the appropriate subforum. When you get spare time, fill out your profile too (at least add your car).

There are two ecotecs to my knowledge: the American and the European. The American is entirely GM. Welcome to the org, kind of interesting that one made its way over to Germany.
A side note - Ich kann deutsch sprechen .

Hallo Pushrods,
wie geht es Dir ?? Ich hoffe gut !
Here in this forum I keep speak english
Yes indeed there are different versions. Its a stupid idea of GM to produces different versions. Bull@!#$. Why ???
To make one "world engine" should have been made much mor sense.
So, its a great risk to drive an american ecotec in Germany. Hope to find friends in the case that something happens to my Sunfire.
Think positive :-)
Thanks and best regards,
viele Grüße
felix

Hi Felix, welcome to the .org. I hope you can find this site helpful, and I wish you good luck with your 'fire. Looking from the other side of the pond, I have always been a fan of Opel cars. I like the Calibra, Astra OPC, and the GT (new and old) . The old GT was sold over here, and the new GT and Astra are sold as the Saturn Skyy and Astra. 2 guys are visiting the plant where I work from Germany, they work for Gartner, the German subsidiary of Permasteelisa SPA, which is the company I work for. I think it's very cool you have brought the car to your country. I would like to do this, but paying the duties on a vehicle, and getting approval from the EPA and highway department are very expensive. I heard that you can now buy the Chevrolet Cobalt over there. Is the engine in the German model still so much different than the 2.2 ecotec in your 'fire? is it even a 2.2 in those models?

I would've had blue or black personally, but that thing was a steal (the dealership payed 15,100 + fixing it - which brought it over 16k - and I payed 15,600). I'm considering getting the parts to convert it to WS6, that'll be a bit off though (not having a job makes it hard, lol).
