ok so i have a huge prob blew a rod out the block on my 2.2 its a 95 cavy what motor should i drop in this thign keep in mind i want to turbo it very soon no matter what motor i go with so be honest lol thanks guys
2.2 eco 5 speed getrag trans
but does it drop right in or do i need a whole harness??
just put back in what it came with. That would probably be best. Now if you want to play around and are willing to deal with some possible issues along the way then do a swap. If I had a 95 I would be putting in a HO motor.

EXACTLY. the 95 is the perfect platform for that swap. ANY swap requires the whole harness, trans, mounts, ecu, and accessories. so, why not use one of the strongest stock 4 bangers you can find?

glad to see your biased...thats like the hardest swap for that year car..
first of all fill out your damn registry so we can see what you have..if its a manual car a 2.3 HO would go great in there, as would the getrag tranny that came with the HO...if you have an auto its not gonna be so simple..SOME people have mated HOs to autos, but the engine never came with an auto so its a bit tricky..so if you have an auto i would suggest a 2.4 engine/tranny swap
I'm surprised at alot of the answers as for what would be the better motor but I guess it would depend on what skills do you have as a technician, what type of funds do you plan to drop on the project, and do you have the resources to do a modified swap for your vehicle. I will give you the best and honest answer that I have available. I would recommend replacing the engine with the same 2.2l that you had before. Believe it or not its one of GM's engines with the least difficulty to work on. If you have the funds then just purchase the performance 2.2l from the GM performance shop.
