Catback Install... Legal?!

Hey guys I have a question for you. I have a catback exhaust I wish to install and I was wondering if I install it in the way below, if it will pass a Virginia State Inspection. My plan was to remove the old exhaust and instead of welding the new catback exhaust on I was going to clamp it. Basically I was going to cut it off, removing the flange entirely and taking a connecter to join the 2.5" pipe to the old exhaust pipe from the cat converter. As the connecter I was going to cut slits in the metal, to ensure a tight fit, and clap each end of the connecter joining the two pipe ends. Thanks for your time guys I appreciate your help.

It should just bolt to the stock cat. I know my pacesetter did.

Ya usually they would but for some reason, I purchase a catback that didn't have the flange on it to bolt right up to the stock one. So I thought I could just clamp it up with a metal connecter w/ cut slits for the pipe difference and two metal clamps. I have this stuff lying around so I figured that might work and wouldn't have to spend the 100 bucks for the weld.

well, you could get a flange and have it welded on... but if you insist on using clamps, at least use band clamps.

FYI - SLP exhausts slip together just like your talking about. So you should be fine.
