Weird Grinding Noise

Sort of a noob question.

Alright. So this generally happens more when my car is cold, but is not limited to non-optimal temperatures. I start from a stop and begin to accelerate (first clear, clutch out) and I slow down only to accelerate again without touching the clutch (in a parking lot or whatever); and i get a weird grinding noise. This also happens sometimes after I've shifted into second, released the clutch and began to accelerate. The noise lasts only a couple seconds and I can hear it and feel the car slightly shuttering. It sounds like it has something to do with the clutch or tranny, but I'm not too sure...

Believe me, I've driven a lot of standard cars, and I'm not grinding gears, riding the clutch, letting it idle so low it stalls etc...

Now, is this normal? Has anybody else experienced it? It doesn't affect the cars driveabilty but the sounds bothers me.

Thanks.

Nope.

i have this same problem right now. I think it's the throw-out bearing or possible tooth broken on the flex plate.

If someone else knows for sure, please chime in. I'm mearly just giving a possibility to think about.

Is it a gears grinding noise or more of a metal on metal noise? Because my car made noise right after the clutch was up and under hard acceleration and it turned out to be an exhaust leak.

It's tough to describe... It doesn't feel like its in the transmission because I don't feel it in the shifter. And it doesn't sound like god awful sound you hear when you grind the gears. It's more tolerable. It's like a shutter, under any accelartion that feels like its holding the car back. It's more noticeable when you shift at 2500rpm in a lower gear (instead of taking it to at least 3g), and begin to accelerate in the next.

Anybody else have this problem? I can't really describe the sound... I need to go record it or something.

Nope.

It wouldn't hurt to look under the car for exhaust leaks. You'll usually feel grinding in the stick or clutch.

I'm definitely going to check out for an exhaust leak. Thanks a lot.

Nope.
