I am sure that this question has been asked more times than, the price of gas has gone up, lately, but is there any way, that is affordable, to put a ecotech in 1997 Cav?
I have a 97 Convertible has a 2.2, that I would love to turn into a car again.
Here is a brief history of the engine, and why I want to go the better path; My daughter owned the car, until around 103,000 miles when the timing chain broke. I put the timing chain on, myself, only to discover that the engine does not have a zero clearance head (no one seemed to know if it did or not) and now, a bent valve. When "I" took the head off, "I" let anti-freeze dripped down into the block. Hey, I changed the oil, but I did it in my drive way, on a slope, and not all of the antifreeze was drained out. When the bearings were destroyed by the antifreeze, I gave up and let a mechanic finish the repairs.
50,000 miles later, it is happening again. Everything but the broken timing chain.
Tell me what to do or direct me to previous threads, so I can be schooled.
its ecotec, you may have a problem searching if you were spelling it ecotech. im almost positive pj did a write up on how to swap it in the third gen forum but not 100% positive.
Pj did do a write up for the swap in the 3rd gen forum, but its for 00-02 Js. Swapping it into a pre-00 J is alittle harder, but is possable.
its very possible to swap an eco into a pre-00 car, but you seriously need a donor car. just about EVERYTHING gets swapped. engine/tranny/radiator/wiring/gas tank/wiring harness/computer/axles/etc

All true... except some axels will be the same unless there is a half-shaft . And in my case only the harness from the dash forward had to be changed ,from the dash back was plug and play!
