Long story short, about 18 months ago my engine (2.4L Twin Cam) blew. Without going into details, it was not salvageable. After waiting this long, I finally got a new motor. I actually ran across a new crate engine on e-bay and nabbed it for $850 plus shipping. So last night my friend and I pulled my old motor and the new one should be in some time this week. Once it arrives, he's taking the next day off work and were going to work on it until it's installed and running.
Basically what I'm looking for is any helpful hints anyone who has done this before can offer. This is my first time doing something like this and am (as to be expected) a bit nervous. Anyway, we managed to get the old motor out without the trans so that's what we're expecting to be our biggest hurdle. Any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!!

I would personally mount the trans onto the engine out of the car... You can do it with it in, but I found it to be easier to get the trans splines lined up through the clutch and into the engine and then just drop it in together.

Auto's are easy...but manual take jess' advice and pull the trans too....much easier.
ITs really nothing to pull a motor. Just make sure you make a nice list for yourself of everything you disconnect and such and mark it all so you know where it goes. and if you think you'll be nervous now...just wait till its time to turn the key...
Hell, build a motor and put $800 bucks just in the bottom end then try and turn the key without shaky hands haha.
But seriously...not really all that hard...just dont rush it...the first time should never be about speed

good advice to save you headaches in the long run on the 2.4 motor, get a new water pump and install it while its out of the car.

It was actually a friend of mine who found the motor for me...chances are, I wouldn't have found it.

I have a friend who has a 95 2.3 Cavvy that he's trying to get rid of. It doesn't run, though. I'm pretty sure that all that's wrong with it is a blown head gasket, but I'm not 100% sure. It may even be a cracked head.
