A better engine for the cavalier.
Friday, September 05, 2008 11:34 PM
Right now i'm configuring a custom swap with a 2JZ engine from a 94+ supra with the tranny into my 2000 Z24. The engine comes with everything i need even the rear wheel tranny and the specks are:

2997cc
320hp@5600rpm
315lbs tq @4000rpm
DOHC 3.0 Liter 6CYL 24 Valve Twin Turbo

slight modding and this set up will be faster then th 3.8L at anytime.

let me know what yall think

a wide eyed kid whose mouth is bigger than his mechanical skills or wallet, Josh man if you believe in it go for it i get statements like tabs all the time. Never listen to the critics and the doubting thomases of this world, have faith if you really truly believe in something you will find a way to make it happen.

full tube chassis - $15,000.
custom fabrication - $10,000
drive train components - $5000
misc. parts and unforeseen items - $5000

the look on your face when you've just realized a turbo'd ld9 2000 z24 just smoked your ass with over 400whp- PRICELESS.

the look on your face when you've just realized you could have gone out and bought a 94 2JZ supra for the money you put into a cavalier-

FREAKN PRICELESS YO!!!!!!!

I remember a guy wanting to put a Northstar v8 into a Cav, got a similar response. How did that turn out?

Remember, anything is possible, however unlikely.

i modified the engine out of the delorean time machine to fit in to my truck. used to flux capacitor and everything. except mine doesn't run on trash because that'd just be ridiculous.

NO JOKE!!

now i'm going to go back in time and pretend that i didn't open this thread. anyone else want to go with me?

GO PATS!!!

yea i'll post the pics when i get it right now like i said i'm taking a lot of measurements and i'm aware of all the custom under body work that has to be done...fortunately i have an uncle who owns a custom shop and i know a guy down here who makes custom drive train components so i'm not worried about that. I was just wondering if anyone else has done it, i wasn't looken for any trouble from anyone on the site plus sorta thought this site was for helpen others out on there ideas not just bashing them. Like i said right now i'm just taken measurements when i start getting the stuff in i'll start posten pics.

Yeah Josh kinda sad on here people need pics to believe something is real they can't just trust someone and go on their word. Society should be more trusting imo.

*Josh* plus sorta thought this site was for helping others out on their ideas not just bashing them, very good point Josh couldn't have said it better myself that's the way it's supposed to be not always the way it is though.

the reason for our "bashing" is because we've heard the same thing, verbatim, about: the lnf, the 4.3 vortec, the sbc, bbc, 22r, 13BREW, ford 5.0, northstar (granted the guy actually did this one, but it's still fwd), EVERY honda motor, EVERY nissan motor...

point is, at least twice a month, a post like this pops up, the op posts three or four times, each goes something like this:

engine swap guy: "hey, i've got a cavalier because i'm poor and cant afford anything fast out of the box. BUT FORSOOTH!! i have acces to (insert mega complicated super duper torque monster crazy swap idea here) and my uncle/dad/brother's cousin five times removed's best friend has a shop and his mother-in-law's baby dady does driveline/engine work, and i can get $60,000 worth of work done for like $5!!!11!!one"

us: pics or ban.

ESG: *crickets*

i've seen it happen alot. but you know what?

PROVE ME WRONG.

y would i put it in a sunfire...it wouldn't be any different if i did..the engine bay from what i understand is the same...the take in fact sunfires and cavaliers are both great cars but to me the cavalier just appeals more (don't really like the head lights or tail lights of the sunfire...imo) but other then that i see nothing wrong with doen the swap in one...Rich Grayo Jr. and i fully understand where you come from as well..i'll just keep all of you posted on how it goes when i start getting stuff in and hopefully i can "Prove you wrong" and get the swap done sucessfuly.

I certainly hope you can prove us all wrong. I really do since you would be the first ever to pull that off.

But I can almost guarantee it will never happen. Any particular reason you chose the 2JZ?
