intake help!
Sunday, September 28, 2008 4:36 AM
ok i been reading the forums about intakes trying to make final pick on which one.
problems though, i keep reading about with brands.

aem: not really worth 175$
cosmo: doesn't really fit well.
ebay: well friend got intake of ebay for a mustang and that was biggest piece of trash i ever sen. really don't want to sink 40-65$ in to garbage. too risky

i been looking at other brands but...yea never heard of some of them.

can some one out there plz tell me whats a good intake that goes to the throttle body, worth the $$$, wont give me 3000 problems, and if you know. sounds nice and gives idk like 4-5HP really don't care but. i really don't wanna buy a 400$ intake for a sunfire so lol. if you don't know the car yet its a 1999 sunfire gt. 2.4.TC.

Look up weapon R. These 'claim' 10-15 hp gains and are decently priced. It would be cheaper to order one of these through a dealership by the keystone warehouse thing...

I didn't take the time to check your location but look through classifieds. Here in MD theres a AEM cold air that goes into the fender ( not sure if they made these or not???) for 100 bucks...

Good luck

ya go with above, i found a candy apple red one that goes from the throttle across the motor behind the battery and down inside the fender with a filter, looks and sounds N I C E what could AEM possibly have on their version that makes it worth 200$ more? i dunno maybe u pay for that vynal stickeer that says there name and the really cool liscense plate cover. anyways mine cost me 48 shipped. hope u dont waste ur money on anything more. THE ONLY thing i ever wasted money on was a ICEMAN and holy crap i love plastic/resin intake pipes i modded mine from a 99 escort zr2 to fit my v6 grand am, its 3" to 4 1/4" at the filter. it has a really loud growl and resonates nicely, plus never gets hot.

heres a better more recent pic still last year but u can see it better it was the iceman intake i cut the front and ends off so it would meet up perectly with opening of the throttle and it goes into a truck sized air filter i wanna say its 4" or more at the end because i have to remove all the couplers from the filter so it fits good luck with whatever you choose remember sometimes its not as easy a click order and install, make it custom be different

i had an ebay bomz intake on my cavy. worked decently for about a year. i had to file out the hole a little bit because it was to small to put the grommet in for the IAT sensor. after about a year, the weld that holds the mount to stabilize the intake broke off making the intake pretty useless. i had upper and lower motor mounts on the car which could have contributed to it breaking...but the AEM i purchased afterwards was on the car for 3 years without a problem. sold the car before it ever gave me a problem.

if you do get an ebay intake, make sure to buy a good filter for it. the BOMZ was shipped with a crappy paper intake that was only good for about 6 months before my gas mileage plummeted. i purchased a K&N filter and put it on the BOMZ intake and my mileage went back up.

ok the one that says sunfire hooks up to the airbox. but they sell one that says its for a 2.4 1995-02 cavalier. will the cavalier fit the sunfire or not???

well on my sunfire 2.2 the throttle is behind the engine and on the cavalier 2.2 the throttle in ON TOP on the motor so it depends on how ur motor is set up, i personally just looked and could not find that intake i had bought last year and its usaully posted. i totally recommend it. just replace the filter. and another AEM high priced company is fujita and they cost like 300 for a short ram lol i dunno why ppl pay soo much for a name when it all does the same. quality is an issue and i can agree some things suck but i like mine and cost shorts

my throttles in the front of engine like in the middle lol. i got a response on a cheap ebay intake thats like 40$ its a black tube. if the bomz one dont fit i might get it. just get a better filter in a month or so.

a 2.4 intake will fit. doesn't matter if is the cavalier, sunfire, or grand am. 2.4 is all the same. the intake doesn't mount anywhere on the body, it mounts to the engine at the throttle body itself and also from a bracket before the bend in the intake that connects back to a bolt on the engine.

Most the ebay intakes just put a filter where your airbox should be, or use the stock intake plenum. Beware
