this has been going on for about a month now. when im driving and im about half throttle or more when i let off the gas pedal there is one single click. i have no idea what the noise is and its bugging the crap out of me. it doesnt matter what gear the car is in, it does it. by the way the car is a 2001 cavalier LS with the 2.4L and the 4T40E tranny.

Have you ever checked the tranny fluid? I am not saying this is the problem but it never hurts to make sure things are at the proper level. On that tranny you will have jack up all four wheels to an equal height. Then there is a small bolt on the front of the tranny (not sure which side). I think it is the left side, When you take that 6mm bolt out the tranny fluid will drip out if the fluid is the correct height. Check a manual for more detailed instructions. If no fluid drips out of the open bolt hole then you need to put some tranny fluid in until the fluid starts dripping out of that hole. Then put the bolt back in.
It sure is a lot of trouble to do but if the previous owner never had this done you will be helping the transmission work better.
Of coarse you can always take it to someone to have the fluid changed. I would say the fluid should be changed every 50,000 miles.
Best of luck with the clicking sound!
Sounds like a motor mount. Check the motor mount near the radiator resevoir mine was broken there and clicked when letting off or while trying to take off fast.
