I would say just start it up once a week and let it run for 5 mins,
well if i have the engine tore apart for a month or so my head is off now do i have anything to worry about?

It's best to change the oil just before the storage period, and fill the gas tank up to reduce the chance of condensation inside. Charge the battery at least once a month, or leave it on a trickle charger.
Generally it's best NOT to start it up, unless it's going to be run long enough for everything to achieve normal operating temperature. Anything shorter, and you're probably just adding condensation to the oil. If possible, going for a monthly drive is ideal, but I know how difficult or unlikely that can be with the weather - otherwise they probably wouldn't be put away in the first place! I'm hoping for a nicer day to come along myself - my "toy" hasn't moved in over a month now...
With fuel injection, the system is pretty well sealed, so for less than a year, I wouldn't worry much about any gas stabilizer or anything special. As long as the battery is charged, it'll probably start up like you ran it the day before.

P.S. - keep the tires at their maximum pressure to help prevent flat spotting. Not too common on newer tires, but you never know. A monthly move helps with that too.
ok ok ya i seen the tires are getting low so ill air them up... thanks

I'm "old school" like John S with regards to storage tips like keeping the battery charged, the tank full and running sufficiently to fully warm up. But, I recently read an argument that said (emphatically) to NOT keep the tank full anymore where ethanol blend fuels are used. The crux of the argument was that a full tank of 10% ethanol fuel would have enough capacity to absorb and retain a significant amount of water, and that less fuel would mean less water retained. Can't say that I buy into this as a full tank should present less surface area for condensation to accumulate in the first place, particularly in modern closed and non-vented systems. Don't think I'm going to alter my procedure at this point as ethanol fuels have been in use in my area for years and i've not heard of water retention problems. - Mark
ic ic ya i only got a quarter tank now

Although I hadn't gone looking for the info, I had done a bit of thinking on the ethanol issue myself. I suspect that there could be some truth to the water retention, depending on storage conditions. Because of this suspicion, I've used the only fuel I can find advertised to contain NO ethanol for storage purposes, which here is Shell's premium offering. I use that in my Valiant and my boat. My Sunfire likes it too, but at 12 cents per liter more than regular, it's a bit on the pricey side for year-round use. My Valiant and boat both have vented systems, which is why I'm a bit more concerned with those.
Even with ethanol being in there, I would still choose to keep the tank as full as practical. Like Mark said though - the newer cars have closed systems, so it's probably less of an issue anyway. I suspect that problems would be more evident in carbureted small engines with vented tanks. I've seen newer (late '80's up) cars sit for more than a year with minimal gas, and still start right up and run fine - so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try to keep those tires round...

ya i tried to jack it up a lil on the frame to keep all wieght off the struts and tires

if youre not movin it, put it up on 4 jackstands, fill the tank, change the oil. also, if you are tearing it apart, and not gonna start it, disconnect the battery when you dont need it connected. thats how mine gets put away in the winter...
Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
ya thats how i got it now thanks
