air fuel gauge sensor failure?

I am using an autometer a/f gauge that has its own wideband o2 sensor. Its about 14" from turbo in downpipe. I am running a little rich in boost (working on that) but after around 5 to 10 min of driving the gauge will slowly fade to lean and then not read at all. Could this be from running rich and fuel effecting the sensor, or is the o2 just taking a dump. If i shut it off and let it sit for a while, it will work fine at startup and repeat. Fuel pres gauge and pyro still read normal. Not effecting the driving conditions of the car. Anyone ever have this happen?
Thnx.

I posted in newbie because:
1) I searched and couldn't find anything (noobish).
2) I will always be a noob, no matter how much I learn.
