Hi everyone. I just bought a 2001 Chevy Cavalier Z24 5 speed and the previous owner recommended this site to me. I am 17 years old...new to cars and just looking for any advice I can get. I love chevy's..absolutely HATE fords. =]
good man
lol any pics of the car, who was the previous owner?
8 psi with m62 and IAT under 100
Welcome to JBO. Pics of the car? And like cody said, who was the previous owner? was he a member here?
the best advice i can possibly give on this site is dont be a cocky douchebag. Accept that there are people that know more about j bodys/cars in general than you and dont try to constantly prove them wrong. Just be cool and friendly and nice, and you'll fit in just fine.
god help you if you dont listen to me lol.

oh trust me....the only thing i really know about cars is the gas is on the right..brakes in the middle..and clutch is on the left. i know how to do the VERY MINIMAL in speaker wiring. and thats about it.
so i will gladly bet $1,000,000 that there are hundreds of people on here that know more than me. haha.
i wont be cocky...you wont worry about that..
i will post pics once i get my car cleaned up and shiny.
previous owner was guy by the name of steven...wont post last name because 1) i dont have his permission to and 2) i hate giving out other peoples last names. He recommended me this site.. I do not know if he is a member on here or not..
i will say that we both are on long island and he is a very knowledgeable person and very friendly.
I am looking forward to owning this z24. I couldn't stop driving it yesterday.
It is the first 5 speed that I have owned. I learned how to drive on a 5 speed mini cooper...let me tell you as much as I am a Chevy fan..the mini is a fantastic car...very nimble very quick and you can pretty much put it anywhere. The only problem is the size..it is so small that if you get hit by an SUV or a Suburban...you are in trouble.
Enough about mini talk. This z24 has got me hooked. I can't wait to get money to put new body kits and other fun stuff...that I WILL need help on looking for the right upgrades so be ready for me to have about a million questions haha
Once I clean my car and get it nice looking i will post pictures
My dad owns a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS " Dale Earnhardt" limited edition. He uses it as his daily driver and it is in very very good shape. I don't know if this is strictly j-body cars..cuz trust me ive been on some pretty strict forums that do not let you do anything...but i will post pics of the car if anybody would like to see...its the stock car...nothing done to it. We were gunna detail it, repaint it, and put some decals on it and put it in shows...but then money got really tight so we havent done it.
Just bought the same car.
I still love my 01 Z and I have had it for something like 4 or 5 years.
I have soaked maybe 4 grand into it so far(including the pile of parts waiting to go on.
you will love it, even with the few issues that may pop up.
good luck with it and I look forward to seeing pics.
cheers
steve
Thank you. yeah im already loving my z. its so much fun. i cant wait to start investing into this car and really making it noticed.
^ its not really much of an investment as it is a money pit. when you put money into it, you're guaranteed that you wont get it all back. but its a fun hobby and i definitely dont regret putting the small amount of money that i have into my car.
good luck with the car, and post pics soon.
Check out my build thread!
yea, cars are anything, but an investment. at your age after insurance, gas, and maintenance/repairs theyre wont be much money at all for mods left over... and mods dont hold much value at all. its all about the persosal enjoyment.
Working on obtainting an M-Class license... ?? Hint: 2 wheels.
just put pics up in the pics forum.
posted uned my z24.
sorry for double post..my computer is a POS that doesnt function properly..kind of like a mustang

Nice choice on the Z with the 5spd. you will find a lot of good friends and very good info on here.
JBO Member since 2006.
my advice would be to seriously weght out what you want this car to be. an all ut track car? a combo of a DD and a weekend car? drag? Auto-X? show? plan out where your going with your build. its a real shame to show up at the drag strip and run someone who has a body kit and lambo doors running a stock engine.
also, body kits + non-lowered car = fail.

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
Heres my list of projects:
install Pioneer DEH-P5800mp deck ( will be done hopefully this weekend)
install new red racing pedals ( should be done by end of march)
hook up 2 subwoofers and amp ( brands TBD and hopefully complete by Summer)
paint the door handles and side mirrors to body color ( done by summer )
replace exhaust tip ( done by spring)
possibily redo exhaust ( TBD)
all of these should be done by the end of this summer. this all depends on money situation.
